Unsure what part of exhaust system to mod..

I'm very happy with the sound of the stock exhaust, at idle it makes all sorts of good noises. What I'm really looking for is more lift off overrun when moving at speed. Can anyone who has messed with the exhaust shed light on what section of the system one would bypass or replace otherwise to achieve more gurgles and pops on lift off?

Pretty sure most will likely suggest going with a catless/catted downpipe.

Hands down the best route to go is our Sport Cat Downpipe. It is the fan favorite amongst M235i/M2/335i/435i owners. I have one on my personal M235i and it is incredible. Check your PMs - I would love to chat more!

I would suggest that you try the following: if you have an automatic put the car in Sport+ and push the shift lever to the left putting the car into S mode. That will increase the amount of overrun and gurgling. If that doesn't float your boat, then do the above and press and hold the DSC button for 5 seconds.

Just a warning, you just turned off most of the driving nannies, but now have the maximum amount of overrun and gurgling during throttle lift off and between shifts. As a side benefit, you also have a linear throttle response just like a real racing car instead of the Fast and Furious video game throttle response BMW chose as standard with Sport+.

If you are still not satisfied and you want all that to be louder, then it is time to spend some dollars and start modifying the exhaust.

Sounds like you need a downpipe

Turning DSC off will make the overrun quieter compared to Sport+.

What's interesting, folks seem to be getting different results, quieter or louder, firmer or softer suspension etc. I wonder if it is the different software versions or the sequence of button presses before you hold down the DSC off button. Anyway Vethen, I think our main point is, don't be afraid to experiment and give all the permutations a try, then pick your favorite.
