Possible fuel pump failure 2015 M235i

Well, I thought this was fixed in this year's model, but I believe my fuel pump has gone out. Starting up the car reveals an awful choking sound with the rpms varying drastically. At this point, I have two options. Either remove the mods and take to the dealer or find a third party shop to do the work.

My dealer has never raised a stink about my mods when it came to maintenance in the past, so I wouldn't rule them out entirely in getting it fixed.

What do y'all think would be my best course of action? Build list in signature.

Pull a log from the JB4 and look at fp_h value? If it's crazy low then I think it would be fairly safe to assume to HPFP is on its way out.

There was a recall on mine and had it replaced under that. Check if it's applicable to your model/year. Mine was a 2014 M235i.

Not sure what your course of action should be, but I just got a recall on my 2014 for low pressure fuel pump as well. The SA said the additives in US gas is causing issues with them. I had no symptoms, but had it fixed as part of the recall.

Recheck your clamps on the intake. I had a similar experience only to find that I simply had a loose clamp on the filter

Doesn't sound like LPFP if it's as described.

I am honestly baffled. I started up the car yesterday and it ran like it never had an issue. Drove around for 30-40 mins with no problems whatsoever. I think my JB4 might be going haywire or something.

170206_2229.zip

I've attached a csv log of some moderate pulls, whichever map is stock performance with jb4 enabled. I really don't want to push the car hard until I know for sure what is causing this issue. Pulling codes from jb4 only gives me an "exhaust flapper disabled"...

I have a feeling it is your intake. There a handful of threads with similar issues with the intake. Try taking it off and running it around for a couple weeks without it and see if you have different results.

I will put money down saying it's not your intake and i can bloody guarantee its not your HPFP.

Try using different top tier fuel from top tier fuel stations and see if the problem goes away. This issue is typically caused by a few different problems and this is a very common and on going issue with the the N55 engine.

if the Different fuel didn't make a difference over the next month, id have it inspected, Eccentric shafts on the valvetronic can develop the slightest amount of grooving/wear into them and it will cause them too become stiff and somewhat bind on start up (there is a test plan through the BMW tester from your dealer for them to test this).

Another issue is the Hook ring seals on the front of the Intake camshaft start to wear through aluminum in the cylinder head and bleed oil pressure from the Vanos control unit which causes the Vanos unit not able to adjust fully since it's loosing oil pressure (this will usually trigger a 2A80D fault tho and in most cases a C.E.L as well)

The last issue i have seen is Injectors.

You can try running the car from Map 1-map 2 and Map 5 to see if the problem changes.. see if the idle issue happens on Map 0? it would help narrow down your issue if its a software/tune issue on the JB4 or something else.

Sorry if it is a long message and i hope it was somewhat useful.

Also there is a current Recall on almost all Models with N55 Engines to replace the LPFP - Contact your dealer and give them your VIN to find out if your vehicle applys to the recall or not.

if anyone finds this issue being caused by a HPFP please message me showing documentation cause every since the old HPFP recall.. i've never heard/seen of one going.

I called a local BMW dealer today to check on my warranty. I asked the SA if my LPFP had been replaced under recall and he said no but the warranty on it had been extended for 9 years 120,000mi. I told him others with 14' m235i's had been getting calls or having replaced once in for service as recall. I asked him what would happen if I came in and requested a replacement and he said they would not honor a replacement under warranty without diagnostics showing issues. Anyone else had this replaced..?

You know, it might actually have been the intake. I haven't taken it off yet, however it was extremely cold that day (probably 18F), and recently it hasn't been near that cold. I remember people saying that they sometimes have rough cold starts. I've been using Sunoco 93, I suppose I can try Shell 93 instead, but there aren't many shell stations near me.
