Am I damaging anything by putting the car in Drive during cold start?

So I have a cattles downpipe and a muffler delete on my car which makes it sound amazing. Problem is that cold starts are so loud that it has become a problem for my neighbors. I've been doing this trick that as soon as I start the car, I put it into drive or reverse that way the revs drop and there's not as much noise compared to when the car is in park. Is there any problem doing this? Am I damaging anything? Any tips for lowering the sound during cold start?

Not damaging anything, just make sure you sit there for maybe 10 seconds before you actually start driving. 10-15 seconds is the usual higher rev before it starts to drop while in park on a cold start. Even if you did drive off, should be fine, but just a small precaution

You are not damaging anything, just make sure not to push the car until it is warm. If you have a JB4, it does not activate until car reaches certain temps

You could also lightly press your throttle to raise the rpm a little bit so it's quieter on cold start

Yeah I meant putting it into drive or reverse without moving the car, thanks for the info! Didn't know about JB4 not activating immediately.

I remember when I was working at my local BMW dealer and we had to move cold cars around I was always a little sketched out moving them because it would go into gear so aggressively. Just listen to what the guys said above, let it warm up for about 10-15 seconds and the idle will drop enough to not upset the neighbors!

Yea, I just wait for the cold start drop down. Then drive conservatively until it's warm.

I don't move until my idle drops to about 800. I think it sounds sick when it's cold starting. my wife says that it's obnoxious. idc. can't wait to get my DP and make it even louder.

cold idling isnt efficient nor is it good for your engine. just drive off right away or wait 10 seconds for oil to circulate/ let the cold idle drop to protect your automatic transmission.

I kind of just ball parked it with about 10-15 minutes of easy driving with about 3-5 minutes of warmup (cold here so start the car then go inside and finish getting ready for work so I can get into a warm car). JB4 with Bluetooth I believe has a temp gauge though. Putting it in tomorrow so I'll find out for sure.

Oh well that works. I generally just turn it on and let it sit for about 5 minutes then drive calm for about another 10 minutes then mash it lol

With modern cars and oils it's better not to let it idle to get up to temp. Just drive it conservatively to get it up to operating temp.
