Got rear ended…

Damage was minor but my bumper will need to be replaced. Brought it to the BMW dealer’s body shop. Insurance gave me an appraisal of $1,200, but when I showed it to BMW, they said the appraisal was for aftermarket parts and they only use OEM. Waiting to hear from BMW, but what am I likely in for, in terms of total repair cost? It’s a 2015 228i xdrive.

Cost will depend on your location & which parts are used/needed. There are some ways to work with "plastic" that might save the bumper cover. BMW dealers in my area don't have the best body shops - talk to one of the premier shops in your area. Good luck!

Go to a Pick-n-Pull and find a front end totaled car, and take the rear bumper cover... It will save you big $$$! Bumper covers generally aren't a big deal to remove and or install! Some may even ship but you'd get the part unseen and that might not work out well. There's Pick-n-Pulls everywhere. You could call ahead to see if they have what you're looking for though and save a trip or heartache! Lol

Good Luck!

Look for used parts on https://www.car-part.com/

I guess the person who hit you didn't stop because it should be them paying for it! Sorry

I wondered about that myself. Maybe neither of them had insurance?
