M240i vs 440i
M240i is on order and getting built as we speak. But those 440i on the lots are so tempting.
After two test drives between 340i and M235i, I felt like the M235i steering and handling was more like my E90 330i. Placed an order for M240i. However, I can't help but think about these 440i that are on the lot that have the same engine and obviously a bit more luxury and spacious I suppose. I do like the 3/4 series music system. Has anyone done a comparison of M2XX to 340i or 440i back and forth and been on the fence? What did you end up buying and why? I think both are great cars. Ultimately, it came down to M2xx steering feel and PSS tires and M brakes Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to give the 340/440i a fair comparison by test driving it with Track handling package. They just weren't available. Would love to hear your opinion folks. Does one car's pros outweigh the handling of the other? |

Just from speccing it out, you're paying a $12k premium over an M235i with similar features, so you're just paying that much for the space and losing the performance. It kind of puts it in an awkward position.

Is the 440i suspension/brakes/body work anything like the M2**i? I think you get a lot more performance from the M240i, and more "room", less performance in a 440i. Pick your poison.

Ok. I didn't realize there was such a big difference in torque. Given 200lbs lighter and increase in torque sounds like a huge perf improvement right there..wow

I own a 2015 M235i and I struggled with the decision of whether to get the M235i or the 435i for a LONG time. To me, and this is obviously subjective, the 4 series is so good looking; aggressive and elegant at the same time. In fact, I think the 4 series is one of the best looking BMW's ever. And I know, it's only 8 inches longer than the 2 series. However, it feels a lot longer and wider than its dimensions reflect. I loved it but I just couldn't handle driving a car that large. While its proportions are beautiful, the only area that reflects all that additional size is the rear seats, which I never, ever use. So I went with the smaller 2 series and I'm really very happy with it, until I see an M-sport 4 series at least! I think mineral grey is the perfect color for the 4, but it does not look as good to me on the 2. Random thoughts which I hope no one will yell at me for.

When I went in to the BMW dealership, all I knew was I was buying a car (NOT an SUV!). I drove the 2, 3, and 4...and the only one I wanted to drive again was the 2. Exterior design was not that important to me...they all have the family look and I can't get excited about details of a front or rear fascia bending one way vs. the other. But, the 3 and the 4 just weren't as much fun! They felt too big and boaty...more luxo-cruisers than I certainly wanted. We have an A6 in the garage, so I didn't need another "comfortable" ride...I wanted something to put a smile on my face every time I get in and not so sedating. I was sure to get the Track Handling Package on my 228i (which helps when my wife happens to be aboard and I need to choose the COMFORT setting) and have upped the ante a bit more with the lower control arms from the M4, but on the mornings I drive the 2, I can't wait to get out the door and into the garage! That's what I was looking for and what the 2 gave me, and the 3 and 4...not so much.

I got more compliments in 3 days driving the 435i GC loaner than ever in my 2 but who cares. It's more fun to drive and it burbles louder |

Do you want a back-to-basics, fun BMW in the mold of the E36 & E46 coupes of yesteryear? Or do you want a larger luxury coupe? That's really the choice here.
The 4**i coupe has a more elegant design, IMO. It LOOKS more expensive. It also offers some amenities unavailable on the 2-series such as heads-up display, superior sound system, custom interiors, etc. It's a bit of a boat, though. The M2**i is a smaller better-handling, better-performing car. It's a car that puts a smile on the driver's face. |

Check out the actual interior dimension specs. There is surprisingly little difference, especially for the driver and front passenger. The biggest interior difference is in the trunk, so if you tend to carry a lot of junk in your trunk, go for the 4!

M240i
I got my M240i delivered last week to me in London, loving it so much, comfortable, nice looking, ideal for people with small kids and sporty at the same time!
My previous car was a E92 335D M Sport, I went for the 8 speed Auto Model, the only regret I did not try a M240i xdrive... so nothing to compare against. You won't be disappointed. Tich.

Having come from an E92 335d then an F30 335i and looked seriously at a 440i, but ended up with an M240i I can tell you that the 240i is pretty much the perfect size and shape for a drivers car. It also drives much flatter (and lower) and even the steering is weighted better. It feels like a roller skate and goes like a rocket.
