On my car it's a single button right next to the mirror selector switch on the door.

You may not have that option.

Other than you having a 228 and me a 235 we seem to have the package options.

haha yes very true, definitely miss having Pep!
You can find out all the options your car came with by punching your VIN into a decoder. Google BMW VIN decoder and enter the last 7 digits of your VIN into it. It'll list the options and packages. Googling the package or option code will give you more information.

I was also new to my '16 228 (first BMW, and a while since I drove anything with this much power). One tip is to set your speed indicator to chime at something sane (like 75mph) - this was real handy at first, until I got used to how fast I was going.

Can't beat downloading and reading through the manual a few times - some things I missed the first time.

+1. My recommendation: read the manual through (it's not an easy read, but worth the effort). Then do it again after driving the car for six months or so. You'll get more enjoyment and benefit from the car if you understand its features,

Dman45 This is highly advisable to do so you know exactly what your car has and doesn't have. This is generally the best one to use, and this one is a good backup. Neither require registration.

I asked about the heated wheel because it was not part of the Premium Package. It's a differentiator between that and the Cold Weather Package, which includes it. If you have "Comfort Access" keyless entry, you almost certainly have the PP.

Just checked the vin and I do not have the premium package, just have a couple options like the heated and power seats, on top of the sport package.

I've already started reading the manual, but I really need to dive in this weekend!

I have the home link and can't get it to work. My garage door guy (Oerhead) looked at it and he couldn't program it either. Tried the learn on the garage door and the instructions in the manual. The garage door motor is 10 years old and he thinks that is the problem. Not buying a new motor until this one goes. I will use the hand held remote.

Have you looked on the motor itself. I couldn't get mine to work until I parked the car almost right under the motor and did the sequence in the manual but then had to hit a button on the motor itself. Think its has something to do with a rolling code. Here is youtube link that might help. Wrong car but similar process.

Hmm I have a leaf blower, too... I always thought they spat out sand etc and wouldn't be good for that application. Did come across this not too long ago from Chemical Guys, and am considering it for my xmas wish list,

Use mine all the time. My paint is flawless. The less you have to touch your paint physically the better. Other than your neighbors looking at you funny there's no downside.

Excellent point. I read it 2 days after delivery, going back through it again. Too much info to absorb first time around and from this post I missed some good info. thanks.

You can let the car roll with the door open by keeping the brake pedal slightly pressed down.

I use a detailing vacuum (MetroVac) that I use in my detailing business. One end is the vacuum, the other end is the blower. I even have small attachments I use to get the hard to reach areas. 5.0 HP in a compact hand held unit.

Sorry for the naive question, but what is the use case for doing so?

Also, anyone have any good advice on changing the settings of the driving mode for better or different performance?

Nothing groundbreaking, but once in a while you may want to move the car with the door open (such as fixing a parking job, moving up slightly at a drive through ATM or gas pump, etc.).

It's more convenient than completely getting in the car, closing the door, then moving it a few feet.

If you have power seats then you have premium package.
I have the luxury package added to the premium package...and I wasn't a fan of having headlight washers so I skipped the cold weather package and just got the stand alone heated seats option.

There's many ways you can option these cars. I did my car build down to every detail. As the saying goes: to each their own

The other day a kid in a early 00's model Audi A4 pulled up fender to fender with my car and then kept looking into my car. After awkwardly doing this for awhile he then dropped the hammer and swerved right in front of me to cut me off.

That's the time to go into sport+ mode and blow by a fool like that at a high rate of speed.

I try to always put the A'hole ahead of me, where I can stay off them. Guess I don't trust enough in my fellow drivers. Does take some relearning of old habits, sometimes I slip back...

Don't know about the 228i, but on the 230i the Option 459 Power Seats are available stand-alone separately from the Premium Package. The problem (for slick top fans) with the Premium Package on the 230i is that it forces you to get the Moonroof. At least on the M240i, you can select the Premium Package with the Option ZDM Moonroof Deletion. So many choices...
