I agree. Mine doesn't obstruct the screen on the Nav and if I turn it horizontally I have clear access to my pre set Sirius XM buttons.

For real time traffic and road hazard info it's tough to beat Waze. Saved me (from potential delays) too many times to count.

Agreed. I love it. I considered all the dash mounted stuff, but don't like the idea of the phone floating over a vent and it just looks ugly. Also, with the phone hanging out in space, it's very difficult to operate the phone because you're hands are moving when hitting bumps and such. With the cupholder mount, I rest my elbow on the arm and easily use the phone.

As you can see, I specifically ordered my M235 without nav and use my phone for that. I can use the steering controls to do voice commands to Goggle Maps and the directions are broadcast over the speakers. Here's a pic of my phone in the mount running Torque.

I've been using this for about a year. The long neck gives you a lot of adjustment.

As others have noted, the low mounting position means that the driver is forced to look down and away from the road. For me, too, the vent mount, pushed all the way over to the passenger side, is the best solution. All that it blocks is the fast-forward and reverse arrows, which are duplicated on the steering wheel anyway.
This position also allows for a very short power cord attached to the 'lighter'.

Great...this thread promotes yet another out of the line-of-sight/peripheral-vision-area distraction for the driver. Put the phones away when you drive...all you need to see is directly ahead of you, in your mirrors, or within the slight focal length and angular deviations of the original instrumentation.

But for those of us who need navigation and either don't have or don't want to use the in-car nav, what are we supposed to do? Write down and look at directions? Print a Map Quest? Both are bad options because you're still looking away from the road. And trying to memorize even simple directions is a nightmare for most people, let alone a longer and more complex trip. I'd much rather have a vent mount I can look at with the quickest twitch of an eye, making the appropriate determination for myself that I can safely spare .5-1 second to check the next turn and not die doing so

1) Get your high-priced BMW with nav and use it ("don't want to use it" has no merit) as BMW human factors engineers positioned it for optimal safe use.
2) Pull off to check your route and know/plan where to turn
3) If not alone, let the passenger do it
4) Last resort: Set your destination before driving and suction cup your phone/Garmin to the windshield so it requires no touching and it's within the most minute line of sight deviation for the road ahead without blocking sight.

Trying to attend/focus on something as low as the console while moving, and possibly even enter data manually, is sheer folly and inviting disaster for you and those unfortuate enough to be in your vicinity.

The whole reason I want it as high as possible is to keep it within line of sight.

Before I start driving, I enter my destination, place it on the mount, and don't touch it again until I arrive.

Not sure how this promotes "another out of the line-of-sigh/peripheral-vision-area distraction for the driver"

Yours is not the only contribution to the thread.

My Scoshe Magic Mount eventually lost its grip. I liked it while it worked.
I switched to a CD mount, since I never use the CD.

That's also a really good Kindle mount, for when I'm on my way to lunch alone and don't want to keep the Kindle in my pocket (with my phone).
