Running 19"s on these roads!
I am picking up my m240 on Thursday and was looking to swap out the wheels for 19"s and get wider tires.
As you all know our roads are sh$t, with potholes everywhere... You guys have any trouble with 19"s around Boston? Was looking to get VMR 710's but kind of worried I will spend more time repairing rims then enjoying them on these roads. |

I got through this winter on 18" rims, but in hindsight, I wish I had gone with 17's for winter. Although it was not on my M240, I have bent a rim in the past. I took a couple of hits this past winter which made me cringe. I'm back on my summer tires now as it's getting too warm to keep soft winter rubber on, but MANY roads in the area have yet to be repaired. I wouldn't do 19's unless you have another set to get you into May/June when the roads are in better shape. Potholes are nearly impossible to spot in the dark if it's been raining.
Seriously, hop on 93N right now. There are some huge craters in the far left and far right lanes coming out of the city.

19" low profile look super cool and do offer better cornering. However - one of my rims is already bent (not enough to loose tire pressure - still functional - but dealership noticed it during 12 month oil change). And the ride is noisier and less cushioned due to low profile tires. I would not go 19". I would stay 18" or maybe even go 17" for comfort and peace of mind. However only you can answer how much you value the improved looks. The M perf BMW 19" with low profiles do look amazing.... |

I drove in EU for 3 weeks, anywhere from cities to remote villages.....I don't understand how roads can be so bad and pure dangerous in USA (at least in MA). It's like all roads are made by idiots, I am sure there is enough funding with all the taxes etc. I've seen how road crew fixes potholes, they through asphalt in pothole and smack it with a shovel....done, you are lucky if that holds till next winter, in some cases the hole is back within a month.
Damaged my 18s on 495....it was scary, and just yesterday put a bubble on a loaner. Not even sure if its coming out of my pocket now. I have tire protection but I am guessing I am shit out of luck since it's a loaner. Last edited by Kolyan2k; 06-10-2017 at 10:05 AM.. |

93N has a crater in the 2nd lane near Medford. I've hit that two nights in a row now (you'd think I would have learned). Fortunately I haven't been able to go fast enough to actually do any damage.

I am glad my town at least tries to take care of some issues. There are apps in Android store where you can report issues and potholes called Commonwealth Connect and Bos 311
I drove in Newton the other day....wow...it's like a war zone. I remember radio hosts complained about roads in Newton like 10 years ago and it's much worse now. |

The funny thing is that state has a law in place that they are not responsible for ANY damage to the car as a result of pothole etc. (On state roads, towns treat it differently). AND very conveniently, if you run a pothole and do a claim, insurance company automatically sends you surchargeable even notice. And then you must pay state $50 bucks and waste all day in court if you want that to go away. Scam on top of scam |
