get the MPE tips powder coated in either gloss or matte black before installing.

here in the UK, stock exhaust "black chrome" tips tend to corrode and subject to many warranty claims. Cant cope with winter weather !!!

Folks get the tips re-coated as above for longevity.....

If these exhaust sound so good and I bet they do, why doesn't BMW just make them standard?

sounds crazy!! Does the bmw performance muffler look significantly different to stock?

I know on my old E90 the stock/bmw performance mufflers looked almost identical aside from a "BMW Performance" badge on the performance muffler

Also, as cmkde mentioned, it should help at the higher boost levels with the JB4 since it'll allow more air to move through.
Not necessarily so..

Steve Dinan talked about this some years ago. That typical stand alone Dyno testing, doesn't mimic real world pressures in front, or under the hood, etc.

Such testing/tuning needs to be done in a near wind-tunnel like conditions, or on a bench dynamiter.

BMW does their homework, & fluid dynamics are important.

Incorrect -- Because there is no wind tunnel doesn't mean that you can't use a baseline of difference of power and wheel torque gained. That is the purpose of a multiple pull baseline run from warm to hot. If you were comparing wind tunnel tuning from an OEM tuned car to a modded dyno pull this would be correct.

Steve Dinan himself in his own words on his very own site states this...

http://dinancars.com/product/d760-00...?series=&mid=/

Also the above post here has a baseline dyno with the OEM box and the aftermarket AFE with a dyno chart to prove this correct. Especially with IAT monitoring you can net amazing results.

Take a look at this thread by @Brings - http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=981972

I agree dyno testing does not mimic real world pressures, but you cannot deny the independent findings (in the above thread) of the air intake temperatures remaining the same between the stock air box and the aftermarket intake AND giving increased gains over stock. If the aftermarket intake is giving *gains* under conditions of *less* real world pressures (because dyno fan), then I don't see why it wouldn't continue to do so under *real* world condition as the car is moving. It wouldn't make sense for it to lose power under real-world conditions as its clearly shown above that the IAT between stock and aftermarket (on the highway) are the same and giving an improvement over net horsepower and torque under less than ideal "real world pressures".
