M Performance Exhaust - Girlfriend/Wife factor
Okay. I need my M235 to sound like an M2 because that's just the topic of the week now isn't it?
No, on a serious note - does swapping out to the M performance exhaust add any drone on a comfort mode highway cruise? I spot little videos here and there, often focused on cold start/rev growls... but anybody have a good inside cabin video of before/after?

I don't own it but have done a ton of research. As others have said, there is zero drone and as crbalch said, it's not that noticeable of a difference vs stock on the inside with windows up. Windows down is when you hear the music.

I would bank on it being drone-free like on my M3 MPE...an even louder platform. BTW...I disconnected the valve on my GF's M235i and there is zero drone with the stock exhaust, so I'd guarantee that the MPE with or without the valve connected would also be pretty drone free.

No drone. I have an MPE with a catted downpipe, and its fine. Downpipe adds some volume to the MPE, but the MPE by itself is very nice. Sounds a little raspy and angry. It's fun. Highly recommend.

Is it cheaper to buy the MPE from factory and installed by dealer
or buy it aftermarket(still OEM) and install it at a exhaust shop with the possibility of selling the original exhaust afterwards? |

Dealer will charge you a lot more. edit: just saw you are located in Canada, not sure if they will ship there, but even if it was slightly more it'll still be cheaper than the dealer |

I have the MPE on my M235 (6-speed manual).
From my experience, there's a small highway speed range that, when in sport mode, I've noticed a bit of a drone. In comfort mode, there's no drone whatsoever at any speed. |

When I buy the MPE most likely next year, I will drive down to Chicago to buy and install the MPE. It will be a great road trip. |

No drone if in comfort mode. There is a noticeable increase in highway volume (not sure I would call it drone) when valves are open. My wife could give 2 sh!ts about exhaust sound and the only comments she's made is when it burbles on decel she says it sounds broken. lol

I purchased the MPE on my E92 (328) and it was an extremely welcome addition.
For this car (m235i), I decided to try the valve disconnect via an OBDII Can Flap module. This essentially allows both pipes to be open all the time and I am very happy with the results. I would strongly advise disconnecting a valve to see if that satisfies your desires -- it could save quite a bit of coin. The comparison between the two setups isn't particularly relevant, but I would say that the M235 is within 10% of the MPE (on the E92) when I have the Can Flap module active. |

I have two important additions directly related to the GF Factor and MPE:
1. Cold starts are louder than stock and can be slightly embarassing to the GF who doesn't wish to disturb the neighbours in the morning. 2. The GF has learned to identify the car pulling up outside by it's MPE exhaust burble, this enables her to know exactly when to put the stove on to heat the dinner. |
