ED question: cost to get the car back to the US?

Sorry for a dumb newbie question, but how much does it cost to get your car to the US if you take ED?

Nothing. BMW takes care of everything.

You just get charged for the normal destination & handling as you would if you bought it at the dealer.

AND I am pretty sure you don't pay your second monthly payment, since your car is on a boat.

Well, you sort of do. Since there is an increase to the MF on an ED.

Which is negotiable - aka you raise my rate and I walk.

I don't think these numbers are negotiable. The standard .00013(or what ever it is) plus the .00003(or what ever it is), if they try to tack on above this, then I agree. Next Dealer please!!!

Ok - I will pay cash, not lease. So it seems to me the best deal is ED and I can have my wife's niece pick up the car then BMW will ship to my dealer. I get ~7% off MSRP and no additional cost. Seems almost too good to be true?

Thanks -

It is in your case. Buyer/Owner has to take actual possession/delivery in Munich at the Welt. Don't have to drive away with it, but you do have to be their physically.

Not necessarily true.

According to David Aviles' site (http://www.bimmerdavid.com/#!delivery-options):

"Anyone who is 18 or older can participate as long as they have a permanent residence in the U.S., a valid passport, a valid U.S. drivers license and a social security number. This includes someone you have designated to pick up the BMW in your place."

So, it seems like yes a friend or other person can pick it up for you as long as you designate that person when you purchase the vehicle, but they can't be someone who doesn't live in the U.S. as it seemed like the other poster was implying.

Got it - thanks for the clarifications. Germany resident picking it up won't work. Savings for ED is about equal to the round trip flight so no way to save money, just not much added cost for the adventure. That makes sense. Thanks for all your replies.

Yes, since you're in SF, the savings would really only make sense if you were already interested in a trip to Europe, where you'd save the 7% plus the cost of a rental. Though there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

Volvo's got the sweeter deal, where you get free air travel, night in the hotel near the factory, and a couple of meals. Unfortunately, though, you're then stuck with a Volvo thereafter.

And don't forget you sign the paperwork before whoever picks up your car in Munich. And then you wait 6-10 weeks for the car to get to you. If you're trading in a car, your trade goes to the dealer before Person X picks up your car too. Not a big deal if you have a 3rd vehicle.
