That would be the easiest piece to fix, new glass.

I find it interesting the windshield didn't break. It must be a stronger piece of glass. I guess that's a good thing when you have a chunk of pavement coming at you on the highway like I did once.

Yes it is a laminated glass. it has to be stronger to protect the driver. It also will not shater. It will only crack. It is not tampered. That's why there is a plastic sheet in the back so when I breaks the plastic keeps it together. All the other windows are tempered. When they break they fall apart in the little round pebbles.

I know we're having a lot of people coming into the dealership to fix the dents since we have a 10% off right now on it.

Great reason not to buy a moonroof? You have as good a chance of getting hit by lightning as losing a moonroof from hail. 99.999% of people would stop driving within 2 seconds of getting hit with hail like that so losing a moonroof would be the least of your concerns. Don't believe I've ever heard of someone dying from getting hit on the head from hail unless its maybe grapefruit size hail.

I'm sure they'll start popping up on Copart or IAAI once the insurance takes possession of them. Most will likely be bought by exporters. Salvage titles don't usually transfer over in many countries so they'll be repaired and sold with clear titles to unsuspecting buyers. Due to this, they probably won't go at any prices we'd consider a bargain. Last edited by five3three; 05-24-2014 at 05:44 PM.. |

Bummer, I am sure you have insurance, hopefully they will cover the full replacement. This would be a good car to pick up from the insurance company and convert to a track car. It will never be straight again (you could hire all of the paintless dent removal guys in the world and they can never make it right) but for a track car it wouldn't need to be.

I live in the Wyomissing area and just about every car in my parking lot was destroyed, including my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Only reason I didn't take my 2 month old to me M3 that day was the chance of rain. My Jeep has 1/2 inch indentations all over the roof hood and body panels. My sunroof shattered and my interior was also soaked and covered in glass.
Our area is a complete mess. No rental cars anywhere and body shops are now booked until end of July.

Hi guys. This is actually my car in the photos. Didn't realize someone had posted it on here. I haven't taken anymore because I want to throw up every time I look at the car. A lot of things actually aren't visible in the photos. Have fun reading them. Both tail lights are shattered. An M badge on the left side actually disappeared! My hexagon trim is cracked around the iDrive unit because the baseball sized piece that broke my sunroof hit that. (Didn't think to close the visor for longer than I should have. I was pulled over on the side of the highway as this happened). No idea how it happened, but one of my M brakes has a deep gouge in it and most of the paint missing. I'm assuming a piece of hail was stuck in my wheel well and scraped it once I decided it was safe enough to drive. Half of my window trim is missing. The A frame is dented at least every inch on both sides, along with a roof doing its best impression of a golf ball that has a crack in the paint running from the sunroof to the rear window. Both side mirrors shattered. Rear spoiler cracked down the middle. Obviously, with two windows gone, the whole interior was soaking wet from both hail and rain that followed the initial blast. Speakers were crackling on the drive home. And no, I didn't take a hammer to my car, whoever it was that said that. Seriously, dude?
I'm taking it to be appraised at my insurance company's mobile claim unit tomorrow morning. Encompass insurance. Needless to say, if the car isn't totaled, I'm telling them my lawyer will be in touch. There is just way too much damage to get the car back to what it was the morning of the storm. |
