$350 Credit for M235i Harman Kardon

Couldn't find a thread on this already (let me know if there is, though), but I just called BMW NA about the Harman Kardon issue. Got the $350 credit, which will be sent to my local dealership and then dispersed to me.

If you haven't called about your credit yet, you should do so!

For those who are unaware (though I'm sure most of you know), some background:

We bring you the official word on the Harmon Kardon issue on the 2 series. As members have reported the HK system comes with less then what they were expecting. The issue stems from incorrect marketing materials put out by BMW that lead buyers to think they were getting a 16 speaker, 600 watt system with a graphical equalizer. This information was incorrect, the official Harmon Kardon package for the 2 series includes -

Harman Kardon® Surround Sound Audio System with 360-watts. This 12-speaker sound system includes 5 tweeters (2 tweeters with "Harman Kardon" designation in the mirror triangles), 5 midrange speakers and 2 central bass speakers located under the front seats

It does not appear that BMW will be adjusting the HK pricing as the 12 speaker offering was intended the entire time. It was simply an error on the marketing side that lead some buyers to think they were getting more. If you ordered a 2 series based on the incorrect previous information you should contact BMW Customer Relations at 800-831-1117 for a case-by-case consultation.

Does this apply for cars bought on the lot as well or only ordered cars? Is there a specific purchase date range this applies for?

Applies to all cars, so long as you have the upgraded Harman Kardon, with no specific purchase date range. BMW hasn't dropped the price yet.

Crazy that they're still offering this. The error has been corrected for quite a while now and it was supposed to be for early 2014s ordered before the website was corrected. They must have a customer service bulletin which did not expire and they're just following protocol. I am upgrading the stereo myself, so I opted out of the option anyway, but it's good information for everyone else.

Might as well option it if you're on the fence. If you paid invoice for options, it would come out to 796... minus 350 puts it at under 450, which is not bad at all for the bump in power output and speaker count of the HK.

I called a month ago, they told the dealer to pay me the $350, never got a check, called again to BMW and they again said they would take care of it, still no check.

Same here, Got a call from molly dugan saying i'd receive a check in 4 weeks. fast forward 3 months and nothing. my service rep at my dealership doesn't even know whats going on. Called molly numerous times to no avail as her voicemail is "full."

pretty interesting to see if this is truly intact still valid. the rebate was only available for those who purchased the car before a certain date. BMW made the correction on the site after we've reported it.

if you go to the actual site you'll notice its not "16 speaker, 600 watt".

Yeah. I am not going to request it. Although I ordered before the correction I could have changed my order after I heard it was wrong info but didn't because I knew the HK was still a good upgraded over the stock system.

I bought my car off the lot and was more upset about the all season tires (the website where they listed the cars features only showed summer sport staggered tires, with all season buried as an option). I complained about both issues, to BMW and they said they would do nothing about the tires but would refund on the HK issue (to be paid by the dealer). The HK system is weak and lacks bass. I have to turn it up all the way to hear my music the way I like to listen, especially when I drive with the windows down. The enhanced audio in my E93 was far better even with the top down. I have added subs so the bass issue is solved, but still may replace amp and speakers.

the 350 would pay for a basslink, but its not worth the trouble since so many of you have not gotten the payment afterall.

I alerted them in the spring time. Then got a call (around June) that I should be expecting a check in 4-6 weeks. Still waiting. May have to go bang on someone re this.

Yeh I won't be calling in. I didn't know it was different, I thought it was the same HK in other models and you're very right BMW should have let us know it was a down graded sound system to all the other HK systems in other models.

But come on guys you're driving a $50,000 vehicle and it's $350. If you need the $350 maybe you choose a car that's too expensive for you.

For me if it was more than $350 like say $1,000 I might have called in to complain but no way will I do this for $350. I love my car and I got a great deal on it so I am happy and grateful for all I have. But that's just me.

Just because someone makes a 5 minute phone call for $350, doesn't mean s/he cannot afford a $50,000 vehicle. I could have easily bought a more expensive car...and I still found it worth my time to call for the credit. Besides, if you think a few minutes of your time isn't worth $350, then you must bank a ton per hour (like several thousand...)

Bottom line is that the HK is not worth $875. My $350 will go, if I ever get it, to a new system upgrade. had I really understood, it is an option I would have declined from the get go.

Called today - got denied since my car is a 2015. I ordered it based on the info I saw originally on the website and based on the marketing collateral I grabbed from a dealer in January.
