Ordering Process and Negotiation (M235i)
Been lurking a bit on this forum and gathered a lot of great info, so i first want to say thanks up front.
I just finisnhed test driving a 228i and i liked it quite a bit, so I'm ready to take the plunge and begin the process of ordering a M235i. From the boards i was worried that getting an allocation would be a problem but my CA informs me they have allocations available. I played with the configurator tonight and chose a lot of the options, (pic attached) MSRP is 52,575 and NADA shows the invoice as 48,535 So my questions would be, and please understand i've only negociated for a car once 10 years ago: -When configuring the car at the dealer are we going to sit and walk through the same configurator? -There are some PIA that i would like to add are these built in before price negociations? -The CA I spoke was recomending installation of PIA at the dealer my understanding is that this incurs labor wher installation at the port does not yes? -When it comes time to talk money I presume they will start with a price at or near MSRP where should I start? At invoice? in what increments does one raise the price? -I presume that where the car will have to be ordered (manual transmission is a must) price negociation will happen before any $ is exchanged? And after agreeing on price there will be a reserve amount? -Is it harmfull to tell them I plan to seek outside financinge? I can get 1.24 at my bank i suspect this is better than BMWFS. I'll stop here for now so I don't create a super long post. Many thanks |

I just picked up my m235i EBII today! I had carbon fiber interior trim and steering wheel installed at port, the pricing at the port reflects labor and is obviously higher than the msrp listed for m performance options. You want to have it all added in to the price of your build, then start the negotiations. I can tell you that due to the demand of the m235i, it will be hard to get a ton of discount. I did get a few grand off of msrp. First negotiate the purchase price, then when you take delivery, you can tell them that you have secured your own financing, sometimes they will try to beat the bank apr that you got your financing through. Make sure you get an out the door price that reflects dealer destination, tax, dmv fees, all that sort of stuff.

Yes, you should be able to order it at his desk through the same bmwusa config page. (dont forget to make sure it has PSS if thats what you want, very common to be switched out with the all-season option)
Dont know about the PIA stuff. I dont know the market on the 2015's... lost track after I ordered MY 14 3 months ago but there is a thread that should show what others are getting so you know where to start. The one thing I can mention is shop around to leverage your buying power. Learn the sales price and allocation date with build week. If your only working with 1 dealer, chances are you will pay more than if you do a little work shopping around. Once they know your working with other dealers and have a price your trying to beat, they will want your business. I dont think they can beat 1.24, thats ridiculously good. they beat my 2.29 with 2.05 but it took me bringing my own check to the table before they were willing to do so. good luck! |

Negotiating
In my opinion, since this is your first new vehicle negotiation in a while and have no specific dealership ties, the best way to negotiate is to go someplace where you have not wasted anyones time with a test drive, or sat around and talked to them.
Call first, talk to a sales guy, say you are shopping an M235i, you will email him the options and the price you want to pay. Rinse and repeat every dealer you are willing to drive to until you get your deal. Done. Look to pay 500-750 over invoice, which is 7-7.5% below MSRP depending on your options. You can get that deal easy, you just have to try. |

I can tell you however I did find $2000 off MSRP for performance center delivery. Also if you are flexible, and can take delivery at a performance center, or willing to drive to dealership far away, or even fly to Europe (which is what I'm doing) you can get a really, really good deal. |

That might be true only in western Massachusetts! For example, in the Pacific Northwest, good luck getting more than $500 off MSRP.

BMW F22 - thanks for the info, SC is a $95 plane ticket away +gas (and ~15 hours) to get home might be something to consider. ED alas I just don't have the time for it this year.
Did an e-mail blast shortly after my last post and a bunch have replied the best seems to be 1700 off but the e-mail is terse so I will need to make sure they're not trying to slip an automatic on me. Last edited by gauol; 08-02-2014 at 02:55 PM.. |

The 228 is an amazing car and I'm not slighting it by suggesting it may be easier to get a discount on the 4-cylinder. |

Ok so I have two CAs telling me they can do ~1700-1800 off MSRP. that works out to: 52575 - 1800 = 50670 which is 2135 over invoice (per nada, kbb and edmunds don't have the 2015s listed yet)
Should I keep playing the CAs off each other? Or is it time to go back to my local dealer and see if he can beat them? I'm feeling that stress one gets at these things building... this thread is keeping me sane. |

Congratulations! Sounds like a good situation especially since the car is ready to be built and no one else has come close to this price for the BMW 235i for the year 2015.
