JB4 Stage 2 FF Wires

Hey guys just a quick question- are the FF wires necessary to a jb4? If so what is the difference that it makes and where would the connection be.

FF connection is at the end of fuel rail which is under plastic engine cover on the top LHS rear of The engine - you have to remove foam insulation by firewall to see the connection.

FF is essential for EWG cars so as JB4 has direct control over the fuelling to maintain correct Fuel trim and AFR, especially if you have extra EWG harness installed. Without it, higher boost maps could cause car to run too lean and jb4 would failsafe to map 4.

So only way to connect is before a cold start because the engine would be to hot? I'll post a picture of what I'm talking about ( it's on the left side towards the bottom of the engine?)

FF connection is top rear of engine LHS.

Are you talking about EWG harness which is front low down RHS ?

So got a related question. I just got jb4 with the ewg harness. I installed the jb4 but not the ewg harness so far. Will I see increased boost with the ewg harness and not the ff wires.

I do not plan on running ethanol or meth, at least not yet.

I have exhaust, CP, and do currently on my car.


Fr what I understand the ecu limits boost to around 14.5 psi without ewg harness. Could higher boost be achieved without ethanol?

JB4 w/o EWG harness will limit what JB4 can control and how much it will deliver in terms of extra boost.

With EWG harness installed it allows JB4 to directly control WG so you will benefit from absolute map capabilities JB4 has with pump gas, these being map 5 [autotune] and map 6 [custom map 6]

Differences between maps 1 & 2 v map 5:-

Map 1 or 2 - additive, lower boost targets [+4.5 psi map 1 and +6psi map 2]- more subservient ie OE ECU is primary to control parameters and no direct control of waste gate

Map 5 - absolute, higher boost targets - JB4 sets and controls more parameters - matches/ succeeds OE ECU and has direct control over waste gate.

Been running map 5 on and off on my EWG m135i for nearly 2 years on pump gas - no issues.

Had map 6 setup on a dyno - its immense !!!

Ahhh thanks that explains a lot so simply put on pump gas i would not see any difference on Map 2, but on Map 5 it would be a different story.

Maps 1 and 2 have preset parameters whilst map 5 is autotuning continually to optimise the tune for how the car is configured, the fuel and the current driving style.

If you have EWG harness fitted you should feel a difference between map 2 and map 5 as maps 1&2 have EWG control disabled whereas map 5 has EWG control enabled.

Try some octane booster with your 91 on map 5....Enjoy....

and it goes without saying if you're going with the JB4 and running map 2 or 5 you should invest in a charge pipe as these seem to blow on the higher boost maps. I know people say they blow on stock boost, but most of the blown pipes seem to come from higher boost maps of the stage 2 tune which makes sense.

I'm in the midst of buying the right one as I purchased a PWG one (don't even ask-but guy said it was EWG and burger confirmed that it's not)

How can I tell from looking at it that it's the correct one?

This is a photo of the unit...which I think is the right one but if someone can confirm that'll be amazing!

IIRC, BMS sell all JB4's with newest enclosure. Best way to check is to open up the box and check the board type - see below - PWG will look like the 2nd one in the photo below
