Our first was a 1988 535IS, 5 MT that was such a PITA in Michigan winters (did not even have a mechanical locking rear diff.) that we owned 7 Audis Quattros after that. All that changed with our 2014 428iX Sport purchased 12/31/13 and now have a '15 228 Sport (RWD) with track pack on order. I really like the "feel" and controls of the 428 vs our last A6 & A4 and look forward to the 228 which should arrive early December.

No. 15 I believe, I was Lucky13 because I had owned 13 new BMW's but I'm losing track now. Had a used 2000 528 and 2010 Mini Clubman S that I didn't even count so actually 17 if you count those, 14 new BWM's, 2 used BMW's and a new Mini. No reason to change if you haven't had issues and really never had anything major. The 2001 X5 probably had the most issues but mostly little minor interior trim problems being that it was a totally new design.

This is number 2 for me. Traded in an 09 328xi for the 2 and before that I drove a few audi cars.

'85 535iA (kind of crap)
'86 535i (good friend still daily drives it) '91 318is (white) '91 318is (black) '11 328i wagon (first new one, did ED) #6 will be a 228i, but I am keeping #5! And while it was not technically mine, I did maintain it for many years - Stepfather then Mom had an '83 528e from nearly new, bought at 2yrs/15K miles. Sold in '07 at 260K.

Third. Never knew I would like BMWs so much, growing up around trucks.
'97 318ti '03 325i (E46) - Purchased while stationed in Germany, no other way to travel in Europe! '15 M235i - Call it mid-life crisis mode, and looking forward to every minute of it!

Well technically my 3rd but my first I only had for a short time since it was European specs I couldn't bring it back to the states.
1992 318is 2008 128i 2015 M235i The 318is was the one that got me into BMWs. It was 16 years old by the time I took ownership. I felt how amazing the ride handling etc. was so I decided to buy one new and never looked back. |
