Did a Software Flash Kill My Enzo Tune?

I've been noticing things since I received my flash update earlier this week. Cold Starts are back, and I haven't been pushing the car due to all the rain in the area, but I jumped on it the other day and I thought, something is not right.

So, I watched torque pro this morning as I was doing a roll-on down a familiar road, and max boost was 16.3. Car was just not pulling like it used to, and this confirmed why.

I wasn't aware a flash would remove/overwrite a custom tune that easily. Also explains why almost all my custom coding is gone.

So, it appears that SIB 12 09 15 (ENCODED CONTROL UNITS) is a fairly destructive update to anyone who has a tune. Just wanted to update the community.

Ouch that sucks. I hope you get it sorted out and you can get back to "normal" soon.

What was the reason for doing the sw update for you? New version out or did the dealer do it to address an issue?

It is a well know fact that new code wipes out custom programming. Sorry that you didn't know that.

Yeah.... I believe the machines they have at the dealership are basically all or nothing meaning when they flash, they flash the whole car and your tune and any FDL coding you had will be gone faster than you say BMW

The tuner will usually re-flash it for free but I guess it depends if you have somebody local or if you have to ship your DME

Yep...this used to be the case when using Dinan flash-tuning; fortunately for me, the dealership did the Dinan flashing as well, so whenever there was a software update applied (such as during the infamous HPFP issues with N54 engines), they'd always re-flash my previous E92. Cobb's tuner, on the other hand, would not do a complete reflash, but only certain mapping paramenters. Whenever a new BMW software flash was applied, the Cobb unit could then add back their updates. Custom (FDL) coding always had to be re-done afterwards in either case.

The original reason was to address some hesitation shifting in the lower gears while in comfort mode. What I wasn't made aware of at the time was that the flash not only reached the TCU but the ECU as well.

Already talked to Enzo and they will bring it back to glory for me! As soon as it stops raining around here, I'll go out and re-code my preferences. Live and learn!

So you don't have to send in the ECU again right?

I saw your other thread. Did the hesitation go away? If so, I'd be curious to know what happens after the Enzo flash is re-applied. It could be possible that the hesitation could be coming from the flash and how it interacts with the transmission.

I either have to send in the ECU or just drive up like I've done before...

This is in the back of my mind also, but if that were true; I wonder why there is a flash to deal with the issue.

I will say that I've found my self driving much slower without the tune. I no longer "race the on-ramp" as there is really no point.
