Lightbulb BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Fully Revealed

BIMMERPOST NEWS
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Fully Revealed
221
COMMENTS

As we recently reported, the car that everyone has been calling the "1 Series GT" has now been fully revealed -- as a 225i. Its full official name will be the 225i Active Tourer.

Also as predicted, the production version retains the Concept Active Tourer's styling. The differences are the smaller kidney grilles and slightly different fascias. The shots of the interior reveal the same multi-layered styling seen in other late model BMWs.

The 2 Series Active Tourer will share the newest MINI's engines and FWD "UKL" platform, but also come in AWD models. And, it will come in a longer-wheelbase version with a third row of seats.

It's one of several new FWD vehicles which BMW will use to push into new segments. Ian Robertson, BMW AG's board member for sales and marketing has previously stated: "With the Active Tourer, we will get a lot of new customers again. They will come out of the premium segment and from some of the volume players."

The Active Tourer will be sold in the U.S. beginning sometime in early 2015.

Why the hell is this a 2 series? It just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm sure it will be a great car for its segment but how does BMW expect prospective customers to understand the difference in their lineups? I don't see how this can do anything but cheapen the image of the 228 and M235. Image is not everything, but NOBODY wants their new bad ass M235 confused with this thing. There has got to be a better option.

This looks really nice. I didn't expect this. I wouldn't mind having one of these as a people mover despite FWD configuration (which doesn't bother me in the least bit)

I would love to see the interior..

I don't get it too. Even if it was a 1/2 GT it still wouldn't make sense since it does not resemble either remotely. I guess they've run out of numbers.

All the more reason to enjoy the current F2X generation of 1- and 2-series cars, because they're going FWD with the G generation.

I agree, I like it as well. The smaller nose of the tranverse mounted engine allows for more room in the back. I wouldn't call it the ultimate driving machine, but if it handles great it can be a great utility type vehicle. Put a diesel engine in please.

This isn't even the Ultimate Soccer Mom machine. Simply awful. All this does is cheapen the brand further.

Except it's fwd, much larger and isn't made out of carbon fiber. So pretty much the same way it's related to an F1 car.

True doesnt make any sense. Getting difficult to figure out what number to use.
They should've just call it the X2 instead.

Cool.

I wonder how it drives.

My last two BMW's have been xDrive, although one never forgets what a good fun RWD car feels like, such as an E46 3-series... I've driven front wheel drive Volvo's that felt pretty good so it's possible.

I want to drive it just to find that out alone.

However, I am in agreement as to not understanding how this is a 2-series. It seems more like a 1-series GT according to the new coupe/sedan naming convention going on, and the Active Tourer is definitely not coupe-like in any way.

It doesn't look bad, actually looks good in a way, just not my style at all. The next version with 3 rows of seats will be interesting. BMW seems to really going for expanding the small car city/family sort of utilitarian market.

Nothing wrong with that because at the same time, I'm loving the M235i, so it's all good.

An X2 would be an X1 with a sloping roof. A baby X4 basically.

I think maybe the GT type cars (which this most closely resembles to me) should have their own designation? GT2, lol! Could be misleading... on second thought, maybe they shouldn't have that designation!
Not that it matters because this has all been decided long ago already anyway as to which model gets which naming convention and what-not...

I don't mind the car, but I don't agree with BMW's decision to use the 2 series name. I've defended BMW's re-numbering system a lot, but I can't rationalise this at all.

I'm sure there'll be an M-sport bodykit that will look great

Another ugly looking piece of crap from BMW. Why 2 series? Just start another nomenclature. Call it the V2, V for vans. Then make it in different lengths and call them V3, V4, V5, V6 and V7. You could even make V4, V6 with sloping rooflines - a coupe and a van combo and charge more for those (because you know...there are idiots who will buy those).

BMW's name for a soccer mom mobile is Active Tourer. Lol.

BMW: lets change the name of our cars so the coupes are even numbers and the odd numbers are sedans... And lets introduce a 2 series car built purposely for enthusiasts... Wait lets throw a hideous. bulky, FWD car in the 2 series lineup... I think it will look good there

Back to the pics - are those 12' wheels ? My god this is ugly.

Step right up! Check out my new badass BMW mini minivan.

I am embarrassed that my M235 will share anything with this car. Even if it's just the "2"
