someone messing with our wheels.....

I'm kind of obsessive about details so I put my wife's car up on the QuickJack to rotate all 4 wheels till the roundels were all in the same positions. (actually had to do that twice last week) When the car returns home from a drive, they aren't aligned anymore. I figure someone at Wal-Mart is messing with me, but the centercaps are very hard to rotate without taking the wheels off. Once was funny, but it seems to happen every time we take the car out!

Don't have an answer, but that's pretty obsessive. I just like to keep it clean, and get out and drive.

I once remember reading in Car and Driver about a person who worked on Rolls-Royces, who was so obsessive, that all the screws in the light switch panels in his garage were all in alignment.

Please don't go that route ; )

I assume they are just sliding from the rotating force generated by the wheels in motion.

No one is messing with your car. Just the characteristics of driving. When you turn a corner the inside wheels have to travel less distance than the outside wheels and thus rotate less. This is facilitated by your differential. If you had a fixed rotating axle across both wheel you would get massive skidding and tire wear.

Also, having the screws in your switch plate covers all face the same direction is called clocking your screws and is the proper way to install wall plates. Any good electrician will do this when doing the final electrical work in a house.

I'm thinking you should sell the quickjack, before you get yourself in real trouble.

OP clearly doesn't understand that wheels travel varying distances during turns, etc.

There is definitely someone messing with your bmw. I suggest adding a front, rear and side facing camera to catch the culprit that is rotating your rondels.

When you catch them in the act of the crime, you should also call 911 and report them. Have them arrested and put behind bars so they can never commit this heinous crime ever again.

Surely OP is joking...

Or, possibly he did not mean 'lined up with the roundels on the other wheels' but lined up with respect to the wheel itself? I does bug me when they are not lined up with the silly M badges embedded in our stock wheels like so:

If that's the case, it is true that although they feel solid when installed and you can't spin them just pushing with your fingers, over time they get off. It must be due to bumps/road vibrations. Tip for those of you that care, the roundel can be removed easily with a ruler or very thin flat head screwdriver and then pushed back into place.

Luckily for you the caps are just sliding slightly and not popping cleanly off like many have had happen on here.

Center cap spinners? Or a script for SSRIs?

PS they never move, it's your wife, once you fall asleep.

Unbelievable..........I started this thread as a complete joke to add some humor around here and it actually turned out fairly seriously! Looks like the joke is kind of on me and I can't believe how many people just assumed I was that dumb.

Sadly, dumb is not in short supply these days.

Thanks for the laugh, anyway. Heh!

The crazy thing is that there are enough mentally ill/obsessive compulsive people out there that your "Joke" is actually quite plausible......so much so that many people didnt consider for a second whether it was a prank or not.....peruse some of the posts on detailing/polishing that border on mental illness for further illustration.....

Somewhere, somebody is triple checking the grammar on their reply, protesting your insinuation that obsessive detailing is a form of mental illness (for the record, it is just a 'condition under study for possible inclusion' - no SSD payments yet). On a similar note, you can peruse other threads and find questions like 'where would I buy a wrench that fits the battery nut' or 'never bled my brakes, but it sounds like fun - what weight of oil should I use?'.
