My question is how many hills are there in the GTA (presumably Greater Toronto Area). If I remember correctly, very few. It certainly ain't no Seattle or San Francisco.
Here on Long Island, there is one hill, and I live on the top of it. |

Been driving only manuals for 40+ years (ouch --- THAT ages me!) --- Bimmers, Alfas, Audis, VWs, Porsches.
The hill assist on the m240i is the least obtrusive I've experienced. 5 minutes to acclimation. DO turn off the start/stop. Stupidest f*****g feature; only there to tweak fleet milage. |

19 out of my 21 cars have been stick and I've been driving for like 9 years now. It's pretty handy since I live in a hilly area with some steep parking lot ramps.

Here is Seattle WA I really appreciate having this feature. I think it might actually improve clutch life for me. This is one hilly city!

Ideally, I understand your point. In practice, it's unrefined and annoying. I turned mine off at delivery and had to code it off on my wife's Audi, where it defaults on, and has on occasion failed to restart!

How does the hill assist work? Does it use the abs\dsc sensor to detect backwards wheel movement and put on the brakes?
I drive occasionally in SF where the hills are very steep grade. I have to rev the shit out of my car sometimes. I'd be curious if it would apply enough pressure in that situation. |
