Unique it is, I've seen some pretty nice looking 1ers (they look way better in person), but objectively it's not a looker...but who was buying that awesome little car for looks anyway?
driving the 1er is great. small, short wheelbase, lovely steering, beautiful handling and feel.....BUT I've always been in love with the way it looks too. it's an old school BMW....the last old school BMW before they went all rounded....

the F22 is heavily influenced by the E82 and it shows....but they softened up the ends and corners. some people love that...some don't.

I always loved my 1ers looks too. Lot of people dislike it, but it was unique in a good way. The front end / headlights took a while to grow on me, a few years actually, but I ended up loving it. A CF lip does wonders for the car.

I like everything but the front. The headlights are pretty atrocious.

I wouldn't say the 1er is old school. Actually would say it is the beginning of the new school, with a bulbous rounded look. E46 is the last of old school.

This is no contest. 2er looks way more aggressive.

I am not sure (bad eyesights) if the pictures are not proportionate but it appears the 2 series side door is longer. Hopefully, this translates to easier rear passenger access or even more leg room for the rear passengers.

the E82 is more straight edged than the E46. NOT bulbous at all....the F22 is following the bulbous trend started by the E92, IMO....

Starting from the bulbous bug eyed front to the rear, E82 screams rounded.

E82 = short, upright, and rounded

Nothing on the E82 says classic. Classic BMW's ended with the E46 M3.

The DNA of BMW is that of the sports-compact sedan or coupe. Something nimble on it's feet, that you can chuck around the streets, where handling is at least as important as power and speed. An involving drivers car. No bigger, heavier or more complicated than necessary.

IMO, once they become large and heavy (like the current 3/4 series), they cease to be true to the original BMW spirit.
