Lightbulb BMW M235i Versus CLA45 AMG

BIMMERPOST NEWS
M235i vs CLA45 AMG

COMMENTS

This may not be a direct apples to apples comparison since the M235i is currently only available in 2-door coupe form while the CLA45 AMG has 4 doors and a higher price tag, but the M235i will compete in the same segment as the CLA45 AMG and the performance figures are not far off. This is the best comparison we can make until a M2 comes along...

we need a 2er GC to have a real comparison. don't like the merc in these pictures or in person. what do you guys think about its interior? there's a lot going on there.

I agree, but we'll have to wait two more years before we see that F26 2-series Gran Coupe. Shame that BMW dragged its feet on that car so much.

The rear of that CLA is truly awful. It doesn't suit that size of car at all, in my eyes it looks totally out of proportion.

2 series for me thanks.

I am always for Bimmer but we should have to admit that Merc build something different this time.
That car looks pretty cool with exception of Nav display which seems like it was last minute addition to the dashboard. I would like to drive it.

BTW I believe it was build on C- platform so not sure if we can compare with M235.

I agree with you on the interior. The BMW seems like it will be a much less distracting place to sit in, more ergonomic and simple. I liked the CLA interior without all the lights on but now there are just like 1000 buttons screaming at me.

10 inches longer, 60% max power to the rear wheels and 100% to the fronts under normal driving? No thanks.

That MB's interior must have been designed by the busiest person in the world. Even the president's calendar doesn't have that much stuff going on. Yuck.

At least one of the exterior pics is of CLA250 not 45AMG.

Interesting how AMG 45 is listed at 49k MSRP. I wonder where M2 will be priced, considering M235 is at 45k. 55??

I'm digging the Merc. The engine has now overcome whatever Porsche engine for highest hp/liter. MB/AMG did a fine job with the CLA45 AMG.

Here is the thing, we develop this crazy appreciation / love for Bimmers... that I am always going to be a little (to not say the opposite) biased whenever we see comparisons like this one... Even when MB makes such a nice car (CLA class) and basically creates a new market segment (at least in the US) where you can now buy a loaded luxury small sedan for 30K. But... with all that said, I'll take the BMW in a heartbeat.

The 2 series wins on looks by a massive margin and I don't even think the 2 series is that great looking, but the cla45 is just plain UGLY. The engines are very close, the idea of a 355hp turbo 4 cylinder is pretty cool though. I'm also a big fan of the cla45 interior.

The engines are very close by numbers only. The engine in the AMG is a much different engine than the one on the M235.

355 hp from a 2 liter engine? That's crazy. Impressive by Mercedes.
