Looks like Lewis is getting new engine for the weekend. Next time will be grid penalties. These engine rules will likely devoid any drama for the championship. He is surely guaranteed some penalties in the future, most likely multiple races.

Vettel already heading into weekend with 5-place grid penalty for changing gearbox.

Nico made himself looked silly again.

Fantastic result for Max. Made the tires worked for 50+(?) laps and a great podium. Decent result for Button, drove well with a less-than-competitive McLaren.

Love the Max Austrian themed overalls.

Inexcusable nonsense from Nico. At least he was the one who lost out in that deal. Hope it costs him grid spots for the next race.

And WTF was that nonsense about putting Hamilton on Soft tires for his final pit stop when he had an unused set of SS available?

Mercedes has a situation on their hands. Neither driver acted prudently from the team's perspective. One would have thought that they had set some internal rules about this after the last time, but neither racer seems particularly interested in pretending they are on the same team. That contact could have easily taken both cars out. Don't know how they'll deal with it. One wonders if the cars are superior enough that they might go to next year with only one #1 driver and someone else who can ensure enough points for the constructor's championship. I'm sure Mercedes would like a lot more predictability for their investment.

Not sure what else LH could have done differently. Everyone tries to win. He didn't make a kamikaze run down the inside. He waited until the last possible moment, when he was in DRS range, and went for the clear outside pass.

NR went full Michael Schumacher and decided he'd risk taking them both out. He should have just manned up and said......."you know what, I decided I wasn't going to give any ground and I guess in hindsight maybe I pushed too far" then at least he'd have gained a bit of respect.

This nonsense about..."I was surprised he turned in on me" was just total bullshit. Guy must realize he's not doing himself any favors as he tries to get a new contract.

Rosberg ruled at fault for incident. But gets a lame penalty.

Quote:
The stewards said: "Having taken note of the extensive evidence given by both drivers and the video and telemetry data, it was apparent that Car 44 (HAM) was in front of Car 6 (ROS) – i.e. more than fully alongside – and that the driver of Car 44 could have clearly made the turn (T2) on the track, if not for the resultant collision.

"Car 6 did not allow Car 44 "racing room" and hence the driver of Car 6 was responsible for the collision."

The championship leader was also awarded two penalty points for the accident and a reprimand for not having stopped while his car was damaged.

"We do note the extenuating circumstances and the fact that the driver of Car 6 (ROS) did slow down significantly and attempted to mitigate the risk to other drivers and cars," the stewards added.

Somebody definitely needs to explain it. New SS tires easily make 15-17 laps with so little fuel left. Made absolutely no sense.

So you are saying Rosberg who is currently in contract talks should get let go? Hamilton signed new contract last year, which goes through 2018. Who would you suggest as a submissive second driver?

It's not about having a passive submissive second driver. It's about preparing 2 cars identically and letting the drivers settle it on the track. That is not what is occurring here. The number of failures on the HAM side of the garage is staggering. Further, when added to the total number of AMG powered cars (8), HAM is the outlier in failures by a big margin.

As far as the drivers are concerned, ROS is one of the top 50 racing drivers on the planet. Unfortunately he is teamed with one of the top 5 racing drivers on the planet. Nico's father NEVER wanted him on a team with Hamilton. The erratic driving in wheel-to-wheel situations and in changeable conditions by ROS is indicative of his comparative skill level. He is a great mechanic of a driver but he is no artist.

I will try to find the site that give total number of components used per driver, thus far, this season.

Cheers-mk

That may be how it goes. Not sure who Mercedes would pick as a #2, but you better believe they will make the pecking order very clear to whoever comes in. Considering the 2 current drivers will be probably be going at each other for the rest of the season, it's likely there will be more incidents and given the superiority of their overall team, Mercedes will not want to go through this driver drama again. They basically don't need 2 number 1 drivers to achieve their goals.

What is with all the Austrian fans booing Hamilton on the podium. It was quite clear he was not at fault. Sometimes it feels there is a racist component to the hate he receives. There was no justification at the time to boo him.
