Technology Package worth it?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I don't really care about the navigation, but I do like the bluetooth connection. Checking the oil temp by shuffling through menus won't be useful to me. However, the larger idrive screen looks much better. For those that have the tech package, do you think it was worth the $2150?

This is my current build at the moment:

Worth the price? Not really but I think since it makes your car looking cooler with bigger screen, more advance looking iDrive control, and eliminating the need to stick your phone/GPS somewhere on the dash or windshield when you need navigation, I think I don't care much about the premium I have to pay.

Tech Pkg is not worth it for me.
The only options I have are paint & parking sensors/camera.

I find the standard iDrive screen large enough. For me the Bluetooth music off my iPhone 5S & hands free phone sound good if not great on the standard 235 radio.

Not even missing the temp-gauge, and prefer having the tire-pressure PSI readings.

We don't get PSI readings with out the tech package right?

Absolutely worth it for me. As I said in other threads, it completely changes the interior to me...the larger wide scree, the much better gauge information screen...car just feels a lot more updated and "today" vs sort of cheap without the Tech Pkg.

I have individual PSI readings on my car and I don't have the Tech Pkg. My car is 2015.
Also at night the ambient lighting in the exterior door handles are wild.

The M235 is so good, for me, extended info from the iDrive is meaningless.

If you are talking about a 2014...it is a must have for me for the enhanced blue tooth. On the 2015 you can get EBT for $500 without the tech package. Having said that I like the Navigation system and the large screen. Google maps is on everybody's phones but it is hard to hear even full volume. It is way too pricey I know...but all options are for BMW. That is the single biggest complaints with BMW.

I see in your build that you are opting for the $500 Enhanced Bluetooth option, which I would bet isn't what you think it is (which is not your fault, but BMW's for giving it that name and not listing what it actually does).

Here is a post I made about it, which lists the features in detail: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...7#post16289727

So, basically, what you want is included in the tech package, so if you take the $500 for the BT and Smartphone option off and add tech package, then it's only $1600 more than you have it specced now.

In my opinion, tech package is absolutely worth it. My friend recently got a 335 GT and his biggest regret was not getting the tech package (I love that car BTW, looks excellent in person and is a real beast).

I'm not kidding... i coded the temp on mine, but was just curious if you got PSI from factory cause lot of people get only green reading with no individual PSI without tech package

here you can see the temp

I know you say that you don't care about navi, but it's pretty sweet, excellent maps, traffic, poi with online search and the coolest feature is the turn by turn direction on the extended cluster which in itself is pretty sweet

Yes the tech package is def a must IMO. In my old e90 I didn't have it and it was instant regret. Didn't make that mistake with my f30 or f22.

2015 2 series, has BT audio streaming standard now (which means the tech package is basically just nav and like bmw apps and the nicer instrument cluster).

so if you also get enhanced BT + usb, on the configurator it says you get more office functionality or something, but I know 2015 2 series all cars have basic Bluetooth audio steraming now (its all F series cars supposedly)

Navi

My 135i convertible has Navigation. I don't use it and instead use my iphone, here's why:

1. I live in a populated suburb of Dallas and the map data that came with my car is outdated and inaccurate. The update from BMW is expensive and would be outdated the day I installed it

2. The interface with the map program is much less effective than the interface with my iPhone. I use GPS Drive and like most of these applications, I can speak or type any search and get directions, phone number, etc.. A new restaurant, for example, would require an iPhone search first anyway and then an address entry in the BMW Nav screen and would only be approximate, since the address did not exist when the data was programmed.

3. Bluetooth streaming is cumbersome, especially when switched on and off. I have streamed the directions from my iPhone through the BMW sound system but then I couldn't listen to the stereo at the same time. Music via Bluetooth is lower quality

4. The Navi screen does look better, but you have to be willing to pay for that look every month. I've found with my 135i CV that I am engaged with other things in the car like the DCT and the Harmon Kardon and am not focused on the screen. So, you could save the money or get another feature that you like. I ordered the M235i Xdrive (I think the traction/speed will be a blast) with cold weather, rearview camera, Harmon Kardon, and summer tires and passed on the Nav.

I honestly, sincerely don't want to start a thread war but you are asking for opinions to weigh the cost. So here is mine and I hope it helps.

I already dislike the screen and iDrive controls, so much so that I have not pulled the trigger on it. The car already feels bloated so adding a bigger display, especially one is such an awful position, seems folly to me.

Paying 2K to what I basically see as further ruining the car with a bigger TV display seems even more crazy in my humble opinion.

Then again, who am I to say it's crazy...If they had a "Car Guy" box for $2150 that I could check that would take away the silly display, iDrive, Active Sound, Comfort buttons, start stop, add a temperature gauge and give me the European Cloth Alcantara interior, I would check it in a heartbeat! Go figure. Good luck.

If you get the Tech Package you do not need Blue Tooth Streaming because you can put your entire Music Library on the built in hard drive and listen to lossless music files.

I think it's more useful than the premium package, but would I pay $2,150 for it, it depends I haven't look at the new screens of the f22 and f30 models I know on the older e90s and 1 series without the tech package they just had a regular radio
