Fuel economy, 2500 miles in
Got my 6MT M240i in May, and I'm very happy (and surprised) to report that my fuel economy so far is around 28.7 MPG, with a 60/40 highway/city mix, driving in Comfort mode most of the time. I've been known to step on it heavily once in a while.
Are these numbers typical for you? Should I expect even better numbers once everything loosens up? |

That's about right. Mine is also 6mt and I was getting roughly the same for the first few months. Then I became obsessed with sport + and my focus shifted to smiles per gallon instead
Contrary to what people say, the manual is shockingly fuel efficient, maybe less at higher speeds but if driven properly you can get great mileage. Have fun man. |

I typically see 22-23 mpg with my 2016 M235 6MT in 60 city/40 highway driving. Where I live is hilly and windy. Plus, I'm not exactly soft on the throttle. Every open entrance ramp is a chance to got WOT and leaving from stoplights, I'm fairly quick. Lots of 2nd bursts as well. I've seen as high as 30 mpg for an entire tank with straight highway driving.

Just what kind of gallons are we talking about in Montreal? Imperial or US? Big difference in mileage calculations. I get maybe 22 overall in mixed suburban driving, mostly local.

Average low 20's during the week. Commute on a highway in heavy traffic. Average speeds ~30mph.
Long highway trips I've managed to average low 30's, but that's also averaging low 70's (mph). Could probably do a little better if I slowed down a bit, but what's the point!

Last weekend in our manual M240i we averaged 7.62 l/100km (37 mpg / 31 US mpg) over a 596km tanks worth of mainly mountain roads between Eastern Washington and Alberta with about 25 full-throttle 3rd and 4th gear passing manoeuvres. I think I can achieve better than 7.0 l/100km (40 mpg / 34 US mpg) at a steady 110km/h. City only driving has been 11.0 l/100km (26 mpg / 21 US mpg) at an average speed of between 30 and 40km/h.

Don't understand how you guys are getting such high numbers in an MT! I have a 228i MT and it averages 25.0 on the car trip computer. Currently it is at 23.0 because I have a heavier food during the summer.

MPGs really can fluctuate on these cars... Yesterday after a fill up, I was stuck at a dead stop for about 10 mins.. then a bit of stop and go on the highway. When I got home, I was showing 28mpgs.. And for most of that drive, I was at 25mpg. This morning, driving to work (60+ miles), just in the opposite direction, I got my mpg up to 31 and I was cruising between 60 and 80mph. I think for my car, the sweet spot is around 75mph to get 30+ mpg, but mine's an auto.

I recently did a two-hour round trip in my M240i, mostly 80 mph freeway work with a few passes up to 90 mph or so. I ended up at 28.2 mpg, and right at about 31 mpg for the steady state sections at about 75-80 mph. Maybe 20 percent of the trip was on surface streets.
My 2002 E46 would get about 26 mpg on the same trip. That's progress, my friends! And I now have an additional 150 bhp on tap. |

I average about 22 mpg for my daily commute (80 city/20 highway).
I have fairly heavy right foot, so I'm not complaining about mpg. It is still considerably better than my previous car (2011 TL AWD). It got 17 mpg for the same commute. |

Just under 21 for me, 60 mins each way of terrible bay area commute traffic with endless stops and jams, and blasting in sport + whenever I get a break in the traffic
My average MPH is about 30 if that helps |
