BMW 2 Series updates for Spring 2016 has just been announced:

BMW 2 Series Convertible: Open Air package joins the fray.
From spring 2016, the options list for the BMW 2 Series Convertible will feature another option sure to appeal to open-air motoring enthusiasts. The Open Air package will enhance the pleasure of top- down driving with a spread of carefully selected equipment features. These include two-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, the HiFi loudspeaker system and the new, ultra-compact and user-friendly wind deflector. Another element of the Open Air package is the through-loading system. With the rear seat backrests folded down, items of luggage such as golfbags or snowboards can be stowed inside extremely conveniently thanks to a through-loading aperture between the boot and rear compartment that is 150 millimetres wider and 28 millimetres higher than in the predecessor model.

BMW 218d xDrive Gran Tourer: variable, versatile, efficient.
A second all-wheel-drive model will underline the versatility of the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer from spring 2016; the BMW 220d xDrive Gran Tourer will be joined in the line-up by the BMW 218d xDrive Gran Tourer. The intelligent all-wheel-drive system transfers the power developed by the latter’s 110 kW/150 hp four-cylinder diesel engine to the front and rear wheels, as required.

The BMW 218d xDrive Gran Tourer comes as standard with a six- speed manual gearbox, but can also be ordered as an option with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.9 seconds (automatic: 9.1 seconds). Its average fuel consumption is between 5.2 and 4.9 litres (5.1 – 4.7 litres) per 100 kilometres / 54.3 – 57.7 mpg imp (55.4 –
60.1 mpg imp), while CO2 emissions are 136 – 128 grams per kilometre (133 – 124 g/km; figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified).

Is this open air package only for non-US models? Sounds like the features are already available/standard on the US models.

I'm wondering about this "ultra-compact and user-friendly wind deflector"..
Is this a small wind deflector which fits in between the 2 rear head rests.
Is so, that would be great when you have passengers in the rear seat with the top down. Mercedes has deflectors like that - and they're quite functional.
Hopefully it will also fit pre-spring 2016 2er ragtops...

Sounds like a global announcement, not sure how much of that will impact the US models.

+1.

If it was, it could be left permanently in place with or without passengers. Has anyone seen a pic yet?

I was also hoping to see the neck warmers (air scarf) like they have the 4 series...

The larger thru load sounds great for trips to ikea - but I hate ikea (unfortunately the wife doesn't)...

Still no mention of the timing to have the B58 engine replace the N55 in these.

I got the 2016 M235i convertible AT at Dec 24th 2015, i already have everything beside the heated steering wheel because i dont need it but was an option for me to have.
Compact wind deflector: you get a net in the trunk that holds it down nice and secure, the deflector itself fold half and save space, when you use it you open the fold and stick into the two holes on each side of the back seat to use.
Two zone control: isn't that every 2 have it ?? lol I rather have just one zone because i have to adjust two knob every time.
Hifi speaker: yeah it is Hifi alright, i turn about 40% volume and its loud enough for me with top down. i'm not a show off that wants everyone to heard my music especially when Taylor Swiff song comes out and all girly......lol
Through-loading: isn't every 2 have it ? the back seat fold down and a big opening rectangle opens. also when the top is up, you can push the convertible top storage compartment upward and gain more hights in the trunk. also a sensor to stop you if the compartment is not put down if you have anything in the trunk so the top won't crush it. very good thinking.

If you ask me, these stuff consider normal for convertible not a special package But they call it "open-air Package" ?? funny
One thing i want to point out, i tried 435i convertible and the neck warmer really is a nice feature i would like to have on M235i but too bad 435i convertible feel too chunky to drive and the reviews weren't even good.
