OEM splitter gap driving me crazy
In doing my research for how I wanted to spec my port installed options, I found that while I kind of liked the front splitter, 90% of the photos showed a small gap between the splitter and the brake duct where you can see the body color.
My OCD is killing me whenever I see it but I've never read or heard anyone say anything about this. Is it just me? Has anyone had this and managed to get rid of it? Here's a few examples: And these one's don't seem to have it: Last edited by M24Oi; 07-24-2016 at 09:07 PM.. Reason: One of the images was from a restricted domain.. fixed. ;) |

mine has no gap. I think I recall someone saying that there is some black tape that needs to be used when installing the front lip. Some like having that little strip of body color showing so they don't apply the black tape. Of course I could be imagining all of this...

That might make sense about the tape/strip.
I don't know if I could ever think it looks good -- A large gap would seem deliberate but a tiny sliver just comes off as sloppy and a bad fitment/install |

Yep. There is a specially cut/shaped black decal that goes on the car before fitting the splitter to cover that gap up.
Give it about 3 weeks and I'll be able to show you some photos of how it all happens when I get my car and put the splitter on. |

Seeing that gap in pictures bothered me, too. As others have said, black tape is what covers it. In order to get the black tape on properly, you have to remove the grille inserts. In order to do that, the bumper has to come off.
Instead of going through all that hassle, I took extra care to apply the stickers by sliding them under the grilles as good as I possibly could. It took some time and patience, but the end result is no visible gap, at least not any you would see without getting your face right next to it. |

I used the black decals without taking the bumper off. Just cut the little tabs on the decals that would normally go under the grills.
Sorry for the big pic. It's actually one pic and not two. |

Yes, you just need a socket with a screw driver bit. The new screws are a Phillips head instead of a regular bolt head. It would have been easier if it had the bolt heads. I hope this helps.
