BMW emblem broken

Woke up this morning and tossed my bag into the trunk before work and closed it and the emblem fell off. Clearly some jerk face BROKE it off. And then put it back on. hanging off. grrr

Looks like I should be able to just buy new plugs( if that's what they are called) from the dealer or amazon.

currently double sided taped

What a coincidence.

A good quality double-sided tape should hold it, and any suckers trying to pry it off will have a hell of a time.

Yep, clearly something wrong with the plug-clip-things on 2016s. Was it unusually hot and did your car sit out in it for an extended time?

I hadn't had my 2016 m235i for more than 2 weeks when mine fell off somewhere between the grocery store and home. It was on the trunk when I loaded the groceries and gone when I went to unload them at home. The dealer just replaced mine (btw a new one is $47 and the plug/clips are $1.50)

Its been warm, but this weekend up north was pretty cool. It honestly looked like someone pulled it out and broke both clips, and put it back.

we have had jerks rip out plants, break mailboxes, etc in the neighborhood full of all adults.

ugh.

Same thing happened to my 2 month old 235 a couple weeks ago. the plastic grommets were cracked and the emblem was just barely hanging on.

found the bmw part number, ordered 2 new grommets on amazon with free prime shpping. fixed in a day. I think the design of the grommets is defective, probably not somebody doing it maliciously. If they went through the trouble of taking it off, they probably would have stolen it, not broken the grommets and set it back in the holes.

Sounds like this is an issue. My car arrived at the dealer (after European Delivery) missing it's rear roundel. I assumed it had been stolen while in transit - they replaced it with no problem before redelivery.

no prob. You'll need 2 (as I'm sure you know). so make sure you didn't just order 1 by itself.

Had the car for about 3 months and the emblem just fell off on my wife's way to work. I'm annoyed the dealer insisted it was not covered under warranty and charged her for the part. This thread has been quiet for a while. I'm wondering if this is still happening to anyone else.

My dealer tried to make me schedule an appointment for the next week. I talked them into letting me stop in that day after confirming they had the part.

From the questioning, it seemed like if the roundel was missing or damaged, they would have charged me. But for just the clips, it was a 2 minute, no-paperwork replacement.

I still can't wrap my head around badges falling off new cars for no reason. When my car is old and crusty I'll consider glue or double-sided tape. I know I'm being a bit stubborn about a $45 part, but to charge me anything for it implies that I was somewhat at fault. That just doesn't sit well with me.

Agreed fully. I would have pushed higher up the ladder if mine had even the smallest scuff and they wanted payment for it. Even with the new clips, they seem slightly too beefy and couldn't pop in 100% to flush so the badge has a minor wobble.

I do suppose though that if the badge is missing, good faith aside they can't assume it wasn't just stolen off your car.

This really seems like something that should be a warranty claim. If enough people push this up the ladder they would issue a TSB on it and check the (possibly defective) clips.

Hope mine doesn't end up this way.

I read this thread about a month ago and went and checked my trunk badge, it was fine. No wobble or noticeable movement at all. Two days later I was telling the girlfriend about the badges falling off and touched the badge a bit and it fell off in my hands. Both plugs were broken. Car was only a month old at the time.

A little black silicone on the back and it doesn't budge! To hell with those stupid clips.

One of my clips broke as well. Less than 2 months old 2016.

I just used some 3M tape I had left over from the rear lip install. Worked great.

Same thing to report here. Got my car in March noticed my rear emblem was loose as fack. Sure enough one of the grommets was broken. Ordered them from Amazon $5 and change. Took all of 5 seconds to install and now the world is right again.

My car is 3 months old, same thing happened to me.
It has been very hot and humid for the last 3 weeks. Think it might have fell of in car wash.
Obviously faulty grommets. dealer replaced emblem and grommets for free.
