CDV.. How bad is it really?
Hello all, I've been driving my brother's manual Mazda 3 for about 6 months before pulling the trigger and leasing a beautiful 228i 6MT in moonlight silver (my first manual car).
My question is, how bad is the cdv (clutch delay valve) in the F22? Ive heard so many horror stories of the cdv in past BMWs but have never driven one of the older ones myself. For my 228, clutch engagement in gear 3 and above is smooth but 1 and 2 does feel slightly laggy and can be jerky; however, I also had these issues in my brother's mazda 3. Is it as bad as the ones in past BMWs? Is anybody having trouble with smooth clutch engagement? I don't really have too much experience for me to truly tell if there is lag or if it is some kind of placebo effect Lmao. I also heard that the cdv opens up in sports/sports + mode but I haven't really noticed this. Thanks! |

Like you said, keep it in sport. I configured my sport mode for soft suspension and sport throttle (minimum CDV interference). When I'm in this mode, shifts are butter. If I drive it comfort or eco (which is Uber rare lol) I find it a bit artificial and inconsistent when in low gears. I've been driving standard for almost 20years and still can't master comfort but sport - the engagement is split second, I hardly blip the throttle when moving from stand still in traffic.
Best advice I could give is mess around with the various modes and see what works best for you as they have some cool pros and cons. You can also try full DTC/DSC off which is a mode on its own and I find it to be a good balance amongst all of them. I personally sit in sport/sport+ or DSC off like 99% of the time. |

I did a CDV delete in my last car and my 235 obviously still has it and I dont really have any issues with it, but obviously I'd like it to be taken out but it doesn't seem like that's necessarily going to happen

On my 328i it was horrible, and I removed it when it made it to the States. If my M235i really has one, I can't tell by the clutch feel. No complaints at all. Both cars feel about the same.
I'd actually like to ADD a CDV to my old Land Rover Discovery.

It's a bit of a bother when you change drive modes especially on heel toeing, but it's not big enough of a pain in the ass for me to do something about it.

Not been a problem on mine. [The only gear changing issue I've had was that...] Third was a little notchy when the car was delivered but that soon smoothed out.
