Bumper issues

BMW informed today that a rear bumper for an m235i is now estimated to unavailable until the last week of August, at which point the part then has to be painted.

I ordered the part July 1. BMW does not give loaners for body work, which is fine, but their attitude of "sorry, there's nothing we can do," is just absurd to me.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just incensed as that is over eight weeks without the car due to a freaking rear bumper.

Is that message coming from your dealer or from BMWNA? Have you tried social media channels (twitter)? Perhaps you can get some visibility there. Other than pulling it off an existing 235 to use for you, if the part isn't available they can't manufacture it any faster.

Perhaps if you make enough noise they will at least extend some "dealer cash" to use to buy some accessories (MPE?).. Good luck.

I used to work at a BMW collision center in cased like this I would always recommend the customer call BMWNA directly. I've seen the pull parts from the production line in certain cases. Good luck.

Good call. I'll push BMW NA on potentially getting a part from the assembly line.

My dealer suggested that maybe BMW switched manufacturers for the rear bumper.

BMW NA has not been particularly helpful so far.

I'm going to ask that my lease payment be reimbursed, as they haven't given me a loaner. I don't think that's unreasonable?

I think some kind of recompense is in order. I take it ur car isn't drivable? Can they put the old one back on until urs comes in?

There is really no excuse for a part on a current model to take that long. I don't see BMW finance doing anything for you. If they are producing cars, they are producing parts. This is one of those times that I would contact the local paper or news show that helps people. Companies don't like bad publicity.

I'm all over BMW. Have suggested they take a part off the assembly line.

Also adamant that I get reimbursed.

Kind of service that makes you consider leaving the brand. Super unfortunate.

Not a bad idea. Maybe I'll call another service center.

BMW NA said they would pay partially for a rental. Told them that wasn't close to good enough.

Definitely not the body shops fault. I do blame BMW NA though.
