What to expect with the upcoming M235i LCI?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
To any experienced BMW hands here - based on BMW's history with LCI changes in other models, what are we likely to see - only minor cosmetic "upgrades" to front and rear fascias, LED lights, a new color or trim level? Or is there a chance BMW will make suspension adjustments to enhance the handling, or modify the steering rack or software to improve road feel, for example?

Don't expect much with the LCI. Mainly lighting and IDrive upgrades.
With the intro of the M240i, the gearbox has already been updated and the chassis reworked as well so the LCI should just be cosmetics, and minor ones at that.

Aside from M240i changes, probably an expensive LED headlight option, maaaybe a change to current headlights as standard, maybe different wheels, colors, etc. I thought new iDrive was arriving with the new engines?

Garage List
Maybe all around LED lighting system. CarPlay is already on the M240i so maybe a change of wheel model?

Engine and gearbox yes but can you point to anything saying the chassis is being reworked for 2017? Haven't seen that.

Yeah, I'm a faithful BMW fan/owner, but it's kind of disgraceful how they seem to be waiting until the absolute deadline to do a standard backup camera. Way to get out in front on that one, BMW.

I used to be a HUD fan until I actually drove a real car with one, the new Camaro SS. The tech was stunningly impressive; the HUD display seemed to float in space about 5 feet off the nose of the car, it was better than a 3D movie. But I found it terribly distracting in traffic and turned it off in a few seconds.

It's possible I'd get used to it - but I doubt it.

I agree, some of my customers cars have them and they are a little distracting to me. As if we don't have enough distractions anymore.

LCI won't be limited to just the M240i; it'll be 2 Series-wide. This is a 2 Series forum, not an M2xxi forum. Jeez ...

... that said, 2017 changes are so major (drivetrain, iDrive) that I seriously doubt LCI will mean much for the car. Possibly 2-3 new colors, LED headlight option, rear-view camera, touchscreen, and tweaks to iDrive / interior trim / exterior styling a la the F30 angel-eye update. The biggest possible cosmetic change would be revised taillamps a la the M2-based 2002 Hommage that debuted last week.

The only thing I'm seriously hoping for are additional color options and different standard wheels. I HATE my wheels.

So the feeling is that BMW will do absolutely nothing to at least marginally improve the handling and enhance steering feel? Seems like a bit of a lost opportunity if they don't....

Or feel free to realize that significantly more 228s are sold than M235s ... and that a 228 with M Sport and THP is all but identical to an M235 except for the motor ...

When LCI is limited to a model and not a series, you'll have a valid argument for this in this forum. Otherwise, you don't.

Do you have any numbers to back that up?

If it's true now, that's new. Last year, Carsten Pries, the head of M product management, stated:

"The M235i is the top seller in the 2-series range."

LOL. Some people just gotta troll. I'm not making an "argument" about anything, as anyone with a 3-digit IQ could easily discern by reading my first post.

My personal interest is only in the M235i. Hence the thread topic. I don't believe there are PC requirements for "inclusiveness" when starting threads on this forum.

Th m235i is such a bang for its buck now that the hype died and moved on to the m2.

I can't imagine seeing more 228i s being sold over the m235i, and hopefully this drops the mark up for the m2 which is absolutely ridiculous.

BMW preprogramed the EPS for the 340 and altered the suspension a little bit.

Look out for something similar for the 2.

Some of the options available for the 228 or even the 235 but non-U.S. are preferable. Do not like the orbit option for either MG or BSM which are the colors I'd pick for a 240. Ideally I'd be able to get a 17" rim with Conti DWS06 but that's not happening, so really just prefer a different 18" option from factory.

Would also really like to get the interior gloss black trim option that's available everyplace but U.S.
