We had more squeaks and rattles in our 2007 E90 than we have at the same age (just under 2 years) in the F22. Panel gaps and fit and finish of the F22 are quite a bit better than the E90 we had. The plastics quality seems to be similar and the real brushed aluminium laminated interior trim pieces are significantly better than the faux aluminium plastic trim in the E90. I would also say the F22 is proving to be better quality than the E82 it replaced, we will see with time as the N54 in the E82 had a few issues such as significant carbon build up by 80,000km and a failed injector together with a failed junction box that was replaced under warranty, so far no warranty work with the M240i.

I don't know if there were upgrades to the E9X series LCI, as my 2011 E92 was leaps and bounds built better than the F22. Body gaps on the 335i was absolutely perfect, and the interior materials were of much better quality. Just the dashboard alone had a noticeably better tactile feel and had a nice supple texture to it versus the F22's plastic~y feel. I had zero squeaks, creaks, clunks, ticks, etc. whereas my F22 has been in the shop at least 10-12 times (see my other posts on the irritating issues with my car). It just seems as if the F22 was built very cheaply to save money to lower cost of vehicle. I've never owned a car that has been in the shop for so many issues as this car has given me, and I've owned 9 cars all purchased brand new. Nissan 240SX, Nissan Altima SE-R, Infiniti G35 and G37S, Lexus IS350, Audi A3, and BMW Z3, E92 and none have given me any headaches until this current F22.

I think it is more a case of you having a Friday car, as Consumers Reports rated the 2016 2-series as the "most reliable sporty car" and "4-series came out a lot worse": https://www.bmwblog.com/2016/08/30/c...-bmw-2-series/

I would say there isn't much in it from the perspective of component quality as so much is shared, but just more to go wrong when the car has more features and functions. I have 2 friends with n55 engined E90/E92 and the quality seems very comparable to our 2007 E90, our 2017 F22 and our 2010 E82. All of them had/have what I would call low-end leather, but durability seems fine when treated properly (our E85 Z4M had very nice Nappa leather, but it was not very durable).

Update: I had my kids with me when I went to the dealership. They picked out "Energizing Tonic" in a blind sniff test. I'll let you know how that goes...
