I think this is pretty exciting news.
The new 1 series in M, be it 1 series or the rumored 2 series, it i guess, not a big suprise.
The supercar however is, if we're not talking about the I8 with an S engine?
I think that's what it is, and the rumors have been flying about that's what happening.
The R8 is a rebadget Lambo, BMW needs to uppen the ante with theyr version of the I8/M8 imo.
Should be 600+ hp then.

Too many damn numbers! Like others said, I don't wanna buy an M4 coupe, I want the "M3" name. Too much for people to keep up with. Their lineup is good right now as far as names.

And a DCT in the 1M successor? Will anybody still make classic 6-speeds in a decade?

brilliant! I like the rear end, it has so many elements of the m1 hommage that I liked so much as well. anyone still thinks it is similar to an infinity?

Car is predicting the X3M will be getting a tri-turbocharged 3.2-liter inline-six. If that's the case, then the M3 would also utilize this motor ruling it out for use in the M2, unless the M3/M4 is getting a 4.0 liter turbocharged V8.

These are just purely speculative renders based on cobbled together parts from various concept and production BMW models. Don't take much stock in what you see.

I think they are getting confused regarding BMWM's sub-brand strategy - In which BMWi is a sub-brand with stand alone projects. So BMW M are deciding on something that does not come from BMW.
To illustrate further BMW's sub-brand strategy.

This strategy is called M-One and M-Two. - They are the codenames designated to the two concepts-
M-One is the larger (if you will) successor to the original M1 , and M-Two is the proposed Cayman fighter which I think they are talking about here. They are completely bespoke projects and although based and using powetrains from existing (future) M cars - They will not have a BMW twin. Just as there will not be a BMW i3 or i8 Twin in either BMW or the M Division.

The next BMW M2 - based on the BMW 2er will be a Coupe and Cabrio like before.

Of course in between and to fund these projects which will see BMWi share extensively with BMWM in relation to CFRP material technology.

BMWM are moving further on expansion with the requirement to fund M-One and M-Two with the BMW X3M and BMW M5 Touring now approved and at a BMW project evaluation event earlier this week a prototype BMW X1M. -
Although in a cannibalised form with half of the lower front missing and an experimental four cylinder with some new tricks , 2 lonely exhaust pipes and a wider track it was nothing to look at in this early form. But the sketches of the car in M format really use the design of the X1 especially the surface lines that surround the car to really add mass to the front and rear wheel arches.

BMW X5M and BMW X6M ARE considered within BMW to be "Volume sellers" as they outsell other M variants in the global market. The addition of the BMW X1M and BMW X3M will also bring BMW M another "volume seller" to the global market.

More later....

This could be fun...

Missed out on the 1M, but the M2 might be worth the wait

Sign me up. I hope they make enough of these so anyone can just buy one without going through a lot of BS like with the 1M. Nice to know the 2 series will have enough room for a 6 cylinder motor.

M2 sounds pretty nice.
Revolutionary M3 is even better!
a supercar that can compete with Aventador!? OMG!
I hope this is the rumor "M-One", and if BMW is going to make it, I hope they would call it M-One.
i8 is Eco supercar and M8 is... well, an old unsuccessful car. The name is also too close to R8 in my opinion.
I just hope BMW can make a right decision especially the rumor 4-series.
Please BMW. 3-series is a very special model from BMW. Since the 2002, everyone wants to steal that secret recipe. It has been a symbol for BMW lets say.
I hope I will not see a 4-series coupe instead of 3-series coupe. If you want to make 4, make Z4.

great news! Hopefully BMW will continue to make a small M car like the 1M for years to come.
