Do we know yet? I saw the interview at Detroit with the product manager who confirmed they won't be factory installed but rather part of accessory catalog.. But does that mean port or dealer? Will we have to pay labor? Has this been answered yet?

Edit: I understand that dealer install is an option, I'm asking if port install will also be an option and allow buyers to save the labor cost.

While we're at it, let's also speculate on the price for the LSD
I'll say (hope) under 2K

if you do port install you don't pay labor but you don't keep the stock parts
if you do dealer install you pay labor but can keep the parts...

that's my understanding

It really depends. So apparently, the US (not sure if any other countries do this) do PIA, which is Port Installed Accessories.

Apparently, this is a BMW USA thing. They hire their own technicians and provide this service to the customer (4 year warranty, no labor cost, etc). I think it is a very good way for them to make more sales, because to be honest, I am not going to spend 1k on M performance suspension and 2k for labor at a dealership!

So, that being said, it's more of a question of when is PIA being set up (people need to be trained) for the M235i?

Is it available at launch?

It also depends on what parts. Apparently on the F30, the M suspension is not available via PIA, but everything else is.

So, maybe we need to ask someone from BMW of America?

The LSD depends on the type. If it is an ok normal LSD, I would think 1,000 is fair PIA. If it is a more sophisticated one like on M cars, 2.5-3k makes more sense PIA!

Good info, so we need confirmation on if / when / which M performance parts will be offered as PIA

I'm mostly interested in the LSD and suspension. I wouldn't spend the money on brakes, you can always do better in the after market for less when it comes to brakes..
