Picking up a new stable mate for her!

Headed to Greer, SC tomorrow to get a Estoril Blue M235 to park next to my VO 1M. Performance Center Delivery is a great way to meet your newest ride!

I'll post some pictures Tuesday.

Mine was $47k plus the trip to Germany to get it. Best money ever spent on a car!

Fun trip! Fully loaded(manual, LSD, sans sunroof) feels a lot like 1M but still softer and a bit more friendly as DD. This will be perfect as I wanted a DD 1M but hated subjecting it to all the "elements" of being a DD. This has enough of the "edge" while still having all the options to make life a bit more comfy.

Stripped 1M and fully loaded M235 may just be the perfect combo! Now add in my soon to be completed Spec E46 and F350 and I should have all bases covered!

Awesome stable of cars! I know it's probably unfair, but how does the M235i compare to the 1M?

Surprisingly not as unfair as you may think! My 1M is a total stripper and I have and will keep it stock. It's fun and fast enough as the M folks intended it for me. It's a blast to drive but for all kinds of reasons, I don't want to drive it every day. I thought about buying another 1M to drive more but hated the idea of paying the premium they are getting, so I built a M235 just the way I'd want it (very similar to a 1M but with more comfort items) and am leasing it for 3 years.

Anyway, a track friend and I drove the 1M down to Greer to get the M235. He had driven my 135i but not the 1M. That plus the Performance center stuff had him pretty jazzed.

So, we drove BMW's M235 (the one they used for One Lap of America) and we beat it pretty hard. It's a VERY respectable car. Very strong and fast. The car they was a automatic but my guess is it had Performance exhaust and LSD(like mine)because it was strong.

So we took turns driving the 1M and M235 on the way home. about 2/3 interstate and 1/3 country roads. Hard to believe but the BMW Performance exhaust on the M235 might sound better then the 1M exhaust. We did multiple hard pulls on interstate and we both agree the M2235 sounds good. And bear in mind, that is keeping it under 4,500 RPM's/100MPH!

As for the drive, the 1M is right much stiffer. It's clearly the edge of the knife performance-wise, but the M235 is closer then I would have thought. Both (M235 in sport mode) are pretty bumpy on broken pavement and wouldn't be the first pick to drive I-40 to Cali.

On country roads, the same held true. The 1M is the stuff. But not by a ton!

The M235 seems bigger in the cabin and because of the way I got them both, more "appointed".

Bottomline, I couldn't be more happy with the pair. Both are awesome and close enough that I'll have fun in either/both.

Can't wait to have a chance to track the M235 and see how that goes since I have had 1M on VIR. Maybe in the spring I'll take them both and see what the diff is.

Take my advise and buy either/both/one/the other/whatever. Both are excellent fun!

Who knows, maybe one day I'll push Eco button in M235....nah!

Nice! This ^ is the part I found most surprising haha. If I could find a well-conditioned 1M locally, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

Enjoy in good health!

Awesome pickup and great review! Appreciate the honest feedback on the M235i coming from a 1M owner. Good to know you consider it a very capable car even in stock form (relative to the 1M). Do you have any more pics? I like the one with the 1M, M3, and M235i.

When u say the MP exhaust for the 2 sounds better than the 1M...is this base on driver inside the m235 or as you drive behind the 2??

I find the m235i MPE not so loud

Congrats, two beautiful cars ! Your description of the similarities and differences was insightful. I look forward to hearing more as you spend additional time in the M235.

It's based on switching from cars, back and forth. In cars, behind cars and being passed by cars.

Neither is loud, but both sound good.
