Trunk storage / Battery Compartment

Hi all,

I'm exploring my fabulous car and I ran across something interesting. In the old E92, there was storage in the trunk available in the space that used to hold the spare tire. In our cars, the battery appears to live in that area along with other electrical components (See picture) I found some sort of wrench wrapped up in there along with an odd foam type insert that I couldn't identify.

My question is, do you think I can safely store misc. items like my detail kit in that space?

I've also included a couple gratuitous 128 vs. 235i comparo pic because the space was open in my garage

I believe the BMW manual warns against liquids stored in that area or liquid flowing into that area from the above trunk space.

Liquids would be bad. I have them wrapped in that zippered plastic thing, but it probably isn't wise to chance it.

From the look of the picture that "odd foam insert" is where the "mobility kit" would be stored if you have one. Since the M235 (none xdrive) comes with non-runflat tires, I have the mobility kit in that space (which is basically a compressor and a can of fix-a-flat). Also in that space is a wrench a screwdriver (I think) and the tow hooks wrapped in a plastic pouch.

I've been meaning to check that kit... Thanks for the reminder

Just to be on the safe side I don't store anything in there. I use my trunk but I'm not gonna risk knocking something out or damaging something.

yep he is correct....mobility kit. If you ordered non run flats you will have the kit. I have not inspected the kit yet so I still have my compressor and plug kit I bought for the 1 series
