I just finished a call with a BMW Genius. The Driver Assist Plus includes: Collision Warning w/ Braking, Pedestrian Warning w/ Braking, Blind Spot Detector, Brake Force Display on Rear, Speed Limit Indicator, and Lane Departure Warning.

Weird that Brake Force Display would be part of an optional package. Seems like it should be a standard safety-related feature.

I don't mean this arrogantly, I swear, but I come from a 1M which did not have the awesome sound of an E90 M3 but it was loud, especially cold. For me it DID meet the minimum requirements of awesome. The E90 exhaust in anger is awesome and uses no microphones or speakers. I don't hear anything from the M235i. It's pretty weak actually for me on the outside. Again, I come from a 1M which is loud so take it for that. The exhaust was a disappointment for me. Inside, again, it was quiet until you hit about 3500 rpm, then something hurt my inner ear. Like high frequency thing that caused discomfort. It wasn't even loud, just not quite right.

As far as self parking ///M cars, go. We are not in the Lexus soccer-mom forum and the poster asked what people thought of this "feature" and we answered. It seems strange that BMW would add this feature to their sporty model but not engineer a real exhaust system or take away the oil temp gauge. I think it speaks to a misalignment of priorities between BMW and many of the people it targets its cars too.
Fair enough. I mean, I prefer the exhaust note of my 335is over that of the 1M and the e92 M3, to be honest. I think it sounds divine.

That isn't to say I don't like loud exhausts though. I think the exhaust note of the RS5 is bananas.

What it does is steers and you control the gas, brake and gear selection based on what it tells you to do. I don't see them changing that to do active parking since it's less of a liability for them to say that you are responsible for the actual braking and accelerating.

Can anyone confirm Blind Spot Detector? I was told it doesn't come on the 2 series.

Thanks!

This is from the options guide PDF they pulled from the site after realizing the HK specs were wrong so who knows...I don't see blind spot assist in here nor is it in the manual.

Active Driving Assistant, including Lane Departure Warning*, Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian Warning and City Collision Mitigation, and Speed Limit Info.

* Requires clearly definable lane markings that are not obscured by rain, snow, etc. Lane Departure Warning feature is not a substitute for the driver’s own responsibility in maintaining safe control of the vehicle.

Also the manual indicates these annoying features are turned on everytime you start the car (I think this was already mentioned).

Yeah I didn't say I wanted them to change it I was just pointing out the Model Highlights section says Parking Assistant: "Parking Assistant takes the work out of parking, by finding available spaces, and then actively pulling into the spot. Simply turn on the indicator, keep pressing the Parking Assistant switch and let the system do the rest. All you have to do is enjoy the ride."

That pretty much means I just sit back and let it park, well that's not quite true if I have to use the pedals and brake. Just pointing out an error is all.

I used to own a Touareg2 which came with front and rear parking sensors. You ever put it in neutral at a light to see the rear sensors come up to see how close the jerk behind you got? lol
That's actually a pretty cool use for that.

I think blind spot is available on the 228i but not on the M235i, but I can't remember where I read this. Just what I recall...

Never put it in reverse but when driving around parts of Chicago if I am first at a light passengers and I often yell "Hipster Warning" as people crossed in front of me.

I did that when I had a rental... Really provides perspective...That alone is worth the price of admission.

The value of Driver Assist Plus just went up SKY HIGH - it is essentially FREE with the $1000 Options Inventive for May - with $300 to spare towards any other option.

Woooooo Hoooooo.

Been driving too many years to see any point in paying for this stuff. I got the rear view camera though, cuz parking in Europe is...different than what you may have experienced in the U.S.

I am 100% a purist, but the first car I had was equipped with rear view cam.

Second car, ended up without the cam / parking pack. And In LA - it would have been incredibly useful, but I like to think that the lack of assistance features keeps me sharp...and it forces you to learn the car.

I can see an argument for both, but it isn't a deal breaker.

I know some of you guys are going to rag on me, but it seems to me the $500 for the parking assistant is easily worth it. If it prevents you from scraping up a couple of wheels on a curb it just paid for itself. Of course you also have to shell out $950 first for a rear camera and parking sensors to get it, but I would be doing that anyway. I know someone that backed over and killed their toddler in their driveway. After watching what they went through emotionally, I would be hard pressed to ever buy another vehicle without a camera and sensors.

All that being said, anyone here have the Parking Assistant option? How well does it work?

Since you already got the basic driver assist, I don't see a value of the park assist option unless you just need that extra assistance with parallel parking (or have someone who drives your car who needs it).
I have both and will tell you that driver's assist was somewhat a bust for me.
-vibrates wheel when you cross the line (somewhat annoying, IMO)
-Auto-stops when pedestrian comes in front of you (haven't seen this really work, even when I'm coming up on a barrier somewhat quickly.
-The speed signs in the speedo are annoying and I don't use that.

That said, I got the parking assist because my wife will drive it sometimes. Living in LA, where parking can be tight at times, I thought I'd never use it. But the 1st time I did, it did a flawless job of dropping my baby against the curb in a matter of seconds with no scraped bumper or rims.

In hindsight, the only changes I would have made against my build would have been to delete the Driver's assist Plus and go with Red vs. Black seats.

Plus, when you get the drivers assist plus, you lose the small/handy little storage pocket to the left of the steering column. :-)

The CA didn't provide you with a copy of the order for you to sign/initial? I wouldn't worry about it. Did you get the backup camera? It's a small car with good visibility and a high seating position. It's easy to park it. The only times the park assist would come in handy is at times you need to squeeze into a spot that guarantees your car gets bumped or swiped if you don't make it out before the people next to you.

I have the Parking Assist and my salesman had no idea how to use it and told me to come back to learn. I feel I wasted my money as I have had the car since the end of July 2014 and have not used it or needed it since the back-up camera works great along with the beeping sensors. When the spring comes, hopefully by then he knows how to use it or we can learn together in an empty parking lot like he promised me with cones. The beeping sensors do not work that well when snow is ahead I am learning. The Driver's Assistance is the back-up camera. The Driver's Assistance Plus has the speed limit displayed and vibrates my steering wheel when I am going over the center line. Hardly ever does this to me anymore as I have learned to judge in this bigger car as my prior car was the BMW 128i that was less wide and about 10" less long.

I've never used the parking assistant, the car is just too tidy for me to feel I need it.
Not sure if you have toggled the distance warning parameter but I set my down to 3 or 5 feet and have not experienced the false alarms on parked cars and such but I do have to say it does get a bit annoying in stop and go traffic and I am not a fan of it turning on by default.

I have driver assist plus only and not park assist and find it a nice to have vs a must have. I can think of 1 occurrence where collision detection saved me from having a close call and since it comes on by default I leave it on 90% of the time. Lane departure, meh, its nice to have if your distracted messing with tech stuff while driving, a better feature for young drivers. I do find it nice to know what the speed limit is, I have not set a warning message yet for x miles over (probably will go with 10) as I have this feature on my radar detector but I do find the BMW GPS more accurate than my Escort. Once again a nice to have when your on new roads or roads that change speeds frequently and speed limit signs are far and few between.
