Engine bay & front fenders heat

Hi All

Do you find that engine bay and front fenders are incredibly hot after a drive in the M235?

I've had many high perf turbo cars, none have heated up like this, 135i included....

Never felt the fenders but the engine bay is crazy hot. I guess to be expected as the motor is working continuously. But I agree.. when I felt the hood and opened the hood, it was very hot.

Garage List
South Africa and Orange County as the culprit?

Mine has never been noticeably hot after drives (even spirited) but mine has the extra oil cooler as a Canadian car which probably helps some?

Oh you know what, I think he's right. Although the hood is hot, if you open it, the heat sinks there are ridiculously hot.

I have a 228i and even my engine is extremely hot after a drive. I'm guessing part of it would be that I live in Miami, but very few cars have gotten as hot as this one gets.

Also the hood has no heat insulation under it so it will sink all the heat from the engine compartment to the surface

Wouldn't much of this be eliminated if the halo daytime running lights were turned off, as one can do (I did) via iDrive?

This is why I have issues with turbo-charged engines. Long term reliability will suffer and it's brutal if you live in a hot climate.

My 228i is my first BMW with turbo and it does get much hotter than previous BMW cars.
When I went to replace front grill and was surprised how warm was the drive side fender since car was driven 90 minutes ago.
I even thought for a moment that someone drove it before but my car has MT and none else at home can drive stick.

I noticed my 228 is very hot when I got it in August, the heat pours out from the front wheel wells...however now that it's 25 degrees out I dont notice it.

The heat is definitely the turbos. The R56 MINI had such a heat problem that the plastic hood scoops were melting. There was a recall to put a metal shield on the turbo. You do have to wonder about the long term effects of that amount of heat in the engine bay.

My question is why does the fan not come on like all other vehicles when it is so hot? That is the norm...

Any Bm technics know this one maybe?

Good question. The fan used to run for as long as 15 minutes after I turned off the MINI to cool things down.

First thing I do when I pull in the garage is raise my hood.

Heats the garage and allows me to keep a good visual of my engine for clear piece of mind.

Same with my mini but I've never heard the fan come on in my 228

Though this was a good article
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...water_plumbing

Anyone use a cut off procedure when turning off a hot engine like idling for a minute?
Like the other poster I sometimes open the hood
