2018 model run

Is there any information as to when production of 2018 shuts down for the 2019? My lease is up September 2018 and will need to buy miles. Will be leasing a new 2er and trying to figure out timing - e.g., early return, latest to order an '18, how many miles to buy.

Thanks

I've had an deposit down since 16th January on M240i and haven't gotten a build code yet. The dealer says they may be switching over to 2019 so that is the hold up. Was supposed to find out this week what was going on ... if I get an update confirming this will let you know.

That seems strange. BMW production seems to vary considerably across the various models. I ordered my 2018 230i in July, and the dealer didn't have much information on the 2018 2 series cars, and production didn't begin on the 2 series models until August. I think production on the '17 production ended in June. Of course they don't necessarily need to build '18 models for a full 11 months...

I am new to the 2 world. Wife wants one. We tried to order one last weekend and the dealer cannot even accept the order. They say the factory cannot guarantee that they can build her a 230i. Nothing real different about the build. these cars just aren't available in Cali.

would it be reasonable that BMW is finished making 2018 2 Series already??

I JUST got a build code for a M240i for week 17 after placing the order 22 January. Apparently 2'er allotments are hard-ish to come by as it's so low volume compared to other models.

I had an email from my dealership (in Connecticut) yesterday, reminding me that my lease is up at the end of September and offering to get me inn a new car as soon as 'right now'.

I asked about the end of the MY '18 production and beginning of '19 production. He said '18 ends in June, '19 begins in July.

I don't think that's the case in Canada. Dealer lots are literally packed with M240's and M2's because they can't push them.

Perhaps that is the case in Ontario, but certainly not in Calgary. Of the two dealers (who are owned by the same company), one dealer has 4 M2s and 3 M240s (all xDrive) and the other dealer has 2 M2s and 3 M240s (2 xDrive), so 6 M2s and 6 M240s for the whole city out of a total inventory of 310 new BMWs available.

That's actually more M2s than I was able to find in all of the Bay Area CA. They don't seem to last long on the lots, although I wonder if with the M2 Comp being announced soon that will change as people wait for it instead.

Just walked into a dealer today and ordered a 2018 M240i no problem. Dealer told me i should expect it 8-9 weeks. So i dont think its a problem to get them right now. I didnt ask anything about the 19's

Did they give you a production number? I was told the same thing and it was weeks until I had one.

I placed an order on m240i late Feb after the dealer told me they had an allocation. It's been a month and still nothing.

My understanding from looking into it that unless the dealer gives you a production number right then they don't actually have an allotment. I had to press my dealer about this and they finally fessed up that they didn't get one at the beginning of the month as expected and had to trade another dealer for one because I made it clear I was going to cancel the order. But from what I understand there were only 4 available at that time. Guess they are more focused on crossovers.

Yea I'm in basically the same boat. They're trying to get one for me. Told them if I don't have one this week I'm walking away from the deal.

I got mines on Monday. Im pretty sure they swapped a production number with another dealer because the build was very different than my order (color, options, interior). They updated the build with my options shortly after I pointed it out.

BMW tracking site still shows the old color combo. Hoping the dealer isn't lying about the update and it's just a delay with the site updating.

Nah I think that’s semi normal. On Saturday when I placed the order my ca told me that they were going to change one they already had in the system, but I would get an email and all the options would be wrong and I shouldn’t worry about it.

Yes, that's what my salesperson kept telling me for weeks. I started hunting around for another dealer with an allotment when they finally came through.
