Turning Radius

One thing I've been repeatedly surprised with on with our 235 xdrive convertible is that the turning radius seems very large for a car this size.

Anyone else notice this?

Is the turning radius for xdrive equipped cars perhaps larger than for rear wheel drive cars?

Not sure why it seems large...the M235i turning circle is rated at 35.8', slightly smaller than the larger F30 that it's based on which is 37.1'

It's no Miata (~30') but it's much better than my Corvette was (~40')

*shrug*

I suppose this will depend on what car you are coming from. The Xdrive should have no impact on the turning circle.

Maybe it's the Servotronic causing me to hit the stops quicker than I otherwise would.

It's quite common for 4WDand FWDto have larger turning circles than RWD. The driveshaft limits the amount of lock permitted.

I have a 235xi and my roommate has a RWD 235. We park in a row on the street and he can make a u-turn in one shot and I can't.

The XDrive's big turning radius struggle is real.

Yeah, I've seen that too...that's why I asked the question. The only thing I've been able to find so far was on autoblog.com that indicates xdrive cars are no different, but of course you occasionally find inaccurate data on websites like that. I was not able find anything on bmwusa's website.

Wow, sounds like pretty concrete proof (I was starting to think I was just imagining it).

Is your xdrive a coupe or convertible? I've long wondered why the xdrive 235 convertible came a year later than the other convertibles (including the xdrive 228). I wonder if the combination of the larger engine and extra chassis bracing for the convertible somehow means that modifications were needed to the front suspension and/or steering so that my car can't have as tight a turning radius as the others.

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, just curious :-) But you would think the specs would be published somewhere.

The only spec I could find that lists it as different is here:

https://www.truecar.com/prices-new/b...2016/73C9F1B3/

37.1' for the Xdrive
35.8' for the RWD

Still states under 18", but who knows how accurate those numbers are.
