What're y'all driving now waiting for your 2er ?

I'm driving what I consider a pretty special car ... my first German car: a 2013 VW GLI Autobahn w/ Nav.

Some highlights of this car:
- Responsive and masculine sounding 2.0L turbo engine producing good healthy torque starting at around 1800
- Great overall maneueverability due to its compact size
- DSG transmission w/ its manual shift mode which is very responsive and a LOT of fun ! I don't know much about transmissions, but I know this one is fun !
- Very attractive/sporty exterior styling (I have a white exterior, with black sill extension thingies)
- Awesome Bi-Xenon adaptive lighting that automatically lights an extra bulb to illuminate corners when turning and turns it off after the turn
- Awesome 400 watt Fender audio system ... gonna miss this as I've heard bad things about the 360 watt HK.
- Comfy leatherette sport bucket seats with good bolstering and lumbar support
- Simple and easy to use interior instrumentation
- Massive 15.5 ft trunk (largest in class) w/ nice cargo mgmt system

Things I won't miss:
- Totally obvious turbo lag that takes forever before the boost kicks in. Twin scroll on the M235i should make this a non-issue
- Rattling of the interior at high volumes of the audio system

Overall, I really love my GLI, and the M235i is just going to be a few steps up ! So, even though the wait for the BMW is killing me, it's a consolation that I'm driving a very special car now !

Beat Silver '97 Audi A4 2.8 with 260xxx on her. Was my college car, told myself I would drive it until it dies which is now 3 years post college graduation. I think every girl at my alma mater *bumped my car while trying to park hers....

**Plot twist, one of the Cats' is blown, serious oil leakage = it won't pass smog. So I can't registered it. Got pulled over the other day for expired tags, cop said he could tow my car right there. Told him I was waiting on a new vehicle... he let me go with a warning. Every time I pull out of the driveway is an adventure!

***giving it to a mechanic friend as a project car the second my 2 arrives!!

****My Uber bill for dates is becoming excessive...

I had a 04 Mini Cooper with 107000 miles and I was in a parking lot going 5mph and there was a pothole and one of my tires went in and hit the underside of the car and had weird shaking after and I took in to find out in addition to the cv joint, there was a number of problems with it; particularly the cat. I had to sell it as is for parts since the repair cost was more than what the car was worth.

TL;DR: I'm driving a rental car until I get mine.

May have to take the rental route if I get pulled over again! Was really tempted to buy a '12 350Z for a couple months but got lazy

Regardless our 2's will feel amazing in comparison!

I had planned to extend the lease on my Cayman, but they let me turn it in without having to replace the tires or do the the 3 year major service. So I probably saved 2-3k.

So I've been renting a car the last two months. Expensive, but it's cheaper than my Cayman payment. So by my math I'm saving money each month ;-)

Was in a Chrysler 500, but got upgraded to a Sante Fe the other day. Talk about having to change my driving style from the P car. I'm so ready to get my M235i.

I was driving my friend's '13 Corolla S. What I like about the car...surprisingly compliant suspension and very lightweight, almost kart-y. Bluetooth integration is also superior to BMW iDrive. But that's about all the pros there are...

I'm driving my 2004 RX-8 I bought off the lot. I adore this car and it's going to kill me to sell it, but we don't have room for another car.

Loves:
-the handling is a dream - easy to drive on the street or track, perfectly balanced
-fantastic brakes
-9000 RPM redline
-the dash is elegant and beautifully laid out - I love the central giant tach and digital speedo
-way more space inside than it looks to have from the outside with a tight, but habitable back seat
-the back suicide doors are incredibly convenient
-it's bright, screaming yellow - not for everyone, but it's my 3rd canary yellow car
-it doesn't look like anything else - not the most sexy design at some angles, but very racy with swoopy curves -10 years on, people still go out of their way to compliment me on the car
-same size as the M235i but 3000 pounds - aluminum hood and rear door panels with a carbon fiber driveshaft - Mazda did their homework here
-great for track days - I only had to upgrade the brake fluid and front brake pads - other changes were made for fun

Dislikes:
-rotaries will flood if shut off cold, so you can't make a quick reposition or stall the car
-it burns oil by nature, so you're adding some every 3rd fill up or so
-fuel mileage sucks - 15.5 around town, 23 highway, 25.5 best ever, 7.9 worst ever (track day)
-they left out the torque

Hates:
-rotary engine lifespan - Mazda has since uprated the apex seal oiling system, but buying a new engine at 85,000 miles really hurts

Bummer about the Mini Fuckin potholes, man. I tell you - the 101 in California is full of potholes ... in really bad condition. I had to replace 2 tires because the sidewall on one burst open ... because of potholes, I'm sure.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like rotaries are a pretty bad deal, huh ?

Rotaries have never had the lifespan of piston engines, but are not usually that bad. The side port engine in RX-8s was a new design and had a weakness in the oiling of the apex seals (the seals at the tips of the rotors). This contributed to the early failures, especially in the 04 and 05 model years. Later, the oil pump was reprogrammed for more output and in 2009, a revised oiling system went in place, so later model years aren't as bad, but they'll never be as long lived as a piston engine.

It's an incredibly fun engine to drive, revving to 9,000 rpm with ease and is smooth from idle to redline. It's also really compact with the size of a small microwave oven, so it helps make for a balanced chassis and low center of gravity. Mazda also engineers a great chassis/suspension. If Mazda had gone ahead with an RX-8 successor, I would have seriously considered it, even with the past engine history.

2000 Honda S2000 - all stock. Wonderful car, I've had it about 7 years as a daily driver, but it's time to let it go for something a bit more comfortable (about to order an m235i 6MT)

Making the switch from a 2005 Jeep Wrangler to a 2015 228i

Loves on the Wrangler:

1. driving with the top down in the summer
2. driving on any terrain in any type of weather condition
3. friendly Jeep waves to other Wranglers

Can't really say I disliked much about the car. If I could, I would keep it forever and take it out on the occasional nice day or plow through the snow when the conditions called for 4 wheel drive.

But, after aging about 10 years, I'm feeling the need to upgrade to something a bit more luxurious, fitted with better technology (coming from a manual windows and locks), and better performance. My wallet will also enjoy the increase in gas mileage.
