Limited Slip Differential Gone?
I was looking at bmwusa.com under "Build Your Own" for the M235i convertible and noticed that the limited slip differential is no longer listed under the options tab. It was there on Friday (2-26-2016). Anyone know what is going on? Is the differential no longer being offered?

Just talked to my sales rep at San Diego BMW. The option disappeared from his port installed order list too. He is going to contact the regional rep to find out what happened.

I was wondering the same. I should be a bug or something. I'm sure they're making enough money with it: US MSRP was $2,8xx and I believe they increased it to $3,1XX. I doubt they are holding off to M2.
It could be the same thing as when some time they had removed the manual transmission, but it was back on a few days later. |

What ever the problem is, guess that I made a good choice to have it port installed on my m235i that I'm picking up next Wednesday at the Greenville PCD. It's expensive, but with the discount that I got it for, still expensive not at the $3240. level. A bit more than what Mopar charged for theirs back in 1967. $56. was the charge back then on my GTX.

Yep. That is the one option that especially makes the M2 a good buy over an M235, $ speaking. Of course M2s will be difficult to get and without much discount for at least a year. There are other options to consider too if tracking is not your main use, like interior and exterior color choices, sunroof, and adaptive suspension. Although I have a feeling that some or all of those options will eventually be offered on the US M2.

Because, not everybody likes the option choices on the M2 as well as Color choices. BMW did this purposely, and that is the reason the M2 comes with few choices and the M2 and M235i are so close in price. For the same reason there will be no M2 Convertible.

You can still get it, via FedEx, from a BMW dealer like the one in Mechanicsburg PA. (hint). If you're not going to install it yourself, any competent independent BMW repair shop should be able to install it. It takes 2.5 hours of labor, so multiply their hourly labor rate to calculate the install cost. Also recommended are new retention clips and shaft seals for the two axles. Those are cheap (~$35) you can just let the shop order them at the time of installation.
