Set "sport mode" as default

I found m235 shows it's best behavior in "sport mode", does anyone know how I can make it as default mode? ( upon starting the engine)

I agree with you 100%. Tried to search for how to do that for a while and found that it must just not be possible. Just got used to pushing the sport button right after the start button.

I'm with you guys about the sport mode. I do, however, let my car warm up a couple miles before I switch it over.

Do you know anyone who can change the coding?

Can't code the default start mode. It'll always be comfort. I just got used to pressing the button as my default routine.

This is fact - no coding exists to default to Sport mode.

BMW gets CAFE credit from NHTSA for this approach.

What's the point of driving around on city streets in sport mode? It's fun when you have someplace to roam. But otherwise you are just using more gas to get to the next light. Just wondering?

Same point as buying the car in the first place....it feels better...throttle response, steering...what a BMW should always feel like (at least a modern one saddled with electric steering!). Maybe it depends how you define "city"....trying to get crosstown in Midtown Manhattan, I guess you're better off walking anyway. Cities out here still allow for lots of enjoyment on every street.

I have a manual, throttle response is completely different in sport. I find it much easier to rev match when in sport so I put it in sport right away. It just feels more natural to me. I can still drive it slow if I want to and shift to 6th gear going 40 if I want, I just simply like the way the pedal feels better.

Steering in comfort mode is awful even if you drive 5mph, its not the greatest in Sport mode either, and especially on X-drive

I would assume you bought 328i vert x-drive to cruise....in that case comfort mode is great

Not only that, but keep in mind that the majority of 2 Series owners aren't driving their cars around like [insert favorite race car driver here] and all. From that point of view (which, I'll reiterate, is the majority point of view), pliability should be the default.

"Comfort" is a good standard setting - and the safe one for plebes. Get over having to hit one button once when you start your car.

Or you could get a Dinantronics tune like I did and then comfort mode is very usable. It makes rev matching easier and throttle response is much better. Of course,it doesn't make a whole Hell of a lot of sense to spend $1800 to just save pressing the mode button!

For city driving -- certainly in L.A. -- Sport is preferable to comfort mode for me. It "wakes up" the car, making throttle response much better for a quick overtake or lane-change. Comfort mode is a little too sedate for me except for highway cruising although even then, the way it holds onto low RPM until you paddle or kick it down into a lower gear displeases me a little (saves gas though). Bear in mind also that my S1 and shock tunes make both modes (and Sport +, of course) somewhat livelier than stock. Without these mods I can't imagine how sedate I would find Comfort mode. I guess I just like a very "live" setup.

I only drive my car in sport with the shifter to the left. Car feels much better, shifts are better, not to mention it sounds like pure sex. The only time I'll switch out of sport is if I'm desperately low on gas and want to use the eco pro coasting function to make sure I don't get stranded!

Don't get me wrong. In the right situations sport mode is great. I like the harder steering and extra pep. But to drive from light to light in sport mode, using extra gas, especially with the small gas tank. Just seems like a waste to me. But to each his own.
P.S. Cruising isn't so great. Have not been able to get comfortable for long trips. My Volvo C70 was better. This is more fun to drive though.

The exhaust note. It's a tie between that and the firmer steering for me.

I'm probably using just as much gas in sport as I do in comfort. I don't think I'm alone, some of us just like that you don't have to push the throttle down as far. Being in sport mode doesn't mean you are mashing on the pedal the whole time or at all.

I dont drive from light to light so I have a different opinion Not even sure which car I would pick if my daily commute was light to light and/or traffic.

This is true. However, because of the different shift points. There is no way that you are not using more gas. I'm going 40 and change to comfort and and the rpms go way down.

I have a manual, I can shift whenever I want though. That's why I feel I'd use the same amount of gas in comfort or in sport. No matter what mode I'm in, if I'm just driving to work I still shift at the same rpm.

If I'm going 40 in 6th in sport and switch to comfort my rpms stay the same
