I have a 228i on order for ED in March.

Every time I see a 428i on the road I have to turn my head after it and they are gorgeous. Their drive is more classy with none of the fun and emotions of the 2-series. The price difference is only ballpark 3-4k and it makes me wonder whether I'm making a mistake getting a smaller car.
I know the 228i's handling is amazing, beyond doubt; I guess it just won't have that classy presence that larger bimmers command.

Please tell me I'm going to be fine....

You're going to feel great after your 2 series gets here.

Maybe my eyes are used to the size of the 2 series now, but to me the 4 series looks too stretched and long.

I ordered a 335i this past spring equipped just like I wanted. After 8 months, I happened to test drive an M235i and traded on the spot. The handling really is THAT much better. Enjoy your 2 series. You'll love it!

Can't do that...Only you know for sure.

But I can tell you my own story. And that is I test drove the 435 more than once. It's a damn sexy looker I agree.

However, after driving it compared to the 2? I knew I'd be bored with it within a month. Like a hot looking girlfriend (or boyfriend) who's pretty vanilla in between the sheets. I wanted a more engaging, visceral driving experience.

There is no wrong with either vehicle, its what best meets ones own individual needs. Know yours well and hopefully you made the right call for you.

I'm still early into M235 ownership, but haven't yet regretted acquiring the M235xi over the 435xi. Or the 1m, M3/M4 or W205 for that matter. If you really did your homework, quit second guessing your decision, enjoy the anticipation of the wait and start thinking about your first and second mods

I'll add this...I've owned almost 10 BMW's in 25 years...The 2 series has all the attributes to equal my fave of em all - the classic E46 M3.

I cannot pay it any more homage than that. Be very excited about your decision and what your going to be parking in that garage of yours.

I had a 435i and it wasn't a patch on my M135i, yes it was pretty but felt like a barge and wasn’t very exciting, I actually look forward to driving the M135i but never did in the 435i, no doubt the 228i will be a better drive than a 428i, I also had one of those on loan for a month, I don’t think a 2 series looks that much different to a 4 series and the quality is much the same, only wish I’d test driven a 1 or 2 series before I bought the 435i as I lost a fortune giving it back after 5 months

As an owner of a summer only driven 2005 E46 M3 6sp convertible with only 27,000 miles, I am addicted to my 2015 M235i 6sp daily driver.

I had a 2003 E46 M3 for 4 years and a new 1988 E30 M3 company car while working at BMW in Munich... (Dam I'm old!) among many other BMW models.

The M235i has taken me back in time! This is what BMW was all about. Whether a 228 or a 235, it's more about the permanent grin when driving them!

Love it. I Really think it is such a great platform. The 2 is pretty much the perfect sport coupe. I can't even really imagine what the M2 is going to invoke. I really do think it will become one of the most celebrated cars of BMW history. Just like the 1M but even moreso. In my opinion, the 3 and 4 are definitely cool. But they don't have that extra "spark" to them. I love the styling on the 2 as well. Every time I see a 2 around the city, I really notice it. Where with the other models, they are cool, but it isn't as much of an event.

I have had my 428 xdrive for almost a year and a half. When I was placing my order 2 series wasn't even around so it wasn't even a comparison at the time. Plus it was going to be the only car in my garage so I needed the extra rear seat and trunk space. My lease is up early 2016 and I am already thinking about replacing it with 228 xdrive.

While I am very pleased with my 4, it is a little too large to be a sports coupe. It feels more like a E63 6 series than a E92 3 series. It doesn't feel particularly heavy but it just feels large. I think it is the long wheelbase (110 in) that takes away the nimbleness I was expecting. It is more of a grand tourer than a sports coupe and I am hoping 2 series (yet to test drive one) with its shorter wheelbase and lower weight would be the Bmw sports coupe that I had in mind...

the 4 series looks better but the 2 series handles and feels a lot better.
Drive both cars and decide which one you like more.

Disagree. The 4 always looks a little too huge and weird to me. Not that it isn't good, I just think the proportions on the 2 are nice. Minus maybe the back a little.

There is no such thing as "enough" if something you perceive as better is within reach.

I get what you are saying, and if i was making this decision i would pick the 2 series.

The 4 is just too big IMO. The 2 is E46 sized and that's the perfect size for me. I'm not a fan of the fenders on the 4 either.

Sounds like you need a little bit more seat time in each. You need to go back to the dealer and just sit in each and do some more test drives to be sure. Make sure your doing apples to apples loaded vs loaded or stripped to stripped comparison.

I liked the interior space of the 4 series but the performance, drive, handling and feel of the 2 series trumped that for me. Both cars look great to me exterior wise and have their own charm.

You should post this on the 4 forum and get more 4 opinions.

You're going to be fine. Consider this waiting period your bachelor's party. Go out and test drive every single one you can get a hold of me. Spool the turbos, take those apexes with wanton abandon, heel toe like there no tomorrow but come wedding day at the Welt; on the Autobahn in your new M235i will be bliss. You going to know that you've picked the right one. The only one meant for you. May the Force be with you!
