Annoying shift indicator (6MT)
Anybody else think that the shift indicators in our cars are annoying?
Even when I'm in sport mode its telling me to go into 5th when I'm at 3rd at 2500rpm. Is there a way get rid of this in the settings? Or perhaps change this to a gear indicator instead (showing me which gear I'm in) |

Yeah, go to settings and into the instrument cluster options. You can "uncheck" the shift point indicator.
The shift point indicator is a good idea to save gas, but i find that it's kind of hard to shift up without using up the clutch too much at those low-rpms because the revs drop so quickly.

I don't remember the exact lable but it should be the 2nd thing that you can uncheck. it's definitely in the top 4.

edit: I just went out an checked, because you asked for exact steps. Go to the main menu, then select "Settings." The very first item is "Instrument cluster." Select that, then disable "Shift point indicator." Take some time to go through the menus while you're there. You might find some other interesting items. JB |

Control Display (under this I only see brightness for the display) Time/Date Language I don't have premium or tech package, could that be the reason why we have different things? |

Thank god I don't have this - I might put my fist through the cluster.
I think I know when to shift - hint, that's why I got the manual.

No dice on my 228i. Brightness for center display and drive mode are the only options. Gonna see if the dealer can disable it when it goes in for service. If I wanted a car to tell me when to shift I'd get a Prius.

I have the premium package on my M Sport 228i. I have the shift arrows in comfort...and I've never put the car into eco..but I imagine they're there too.

If you have the extended display in the cluster it will also show you icons of a foot pressing on the gas too much and a shift knob as well as reminders to drive more economically. It also tells you how much extra you will be able to travel on a tank from having driven in eco pro. Most I've seen over a tank is about 3-4 miles, but I don't put it in eco pro often and never for a whole tank driving around town.

I think it is telling me to shift a little later but... I still find myself in 3rd at like 2500rpm and then it says 5 or even 6 in the center cluster, insisting me to upshift into that gear

Yes its for eco pro mode. Its hilarious how lazy the throttle gets. If you stomp on it though it will still accelerate hard, you just need to coax it into doing so.

I guess you can only disable it on the extended display (aka you have tech package).
