Autotrader Canada Review 2018 M240 RWD manual

Another review from the North. BMW Canada must be circulating this car around the writers as this looks like the same car reviews in Wheels.ca a few weeks ago.

He talks a bit about price which brings to mind the recurring thread that a loaded M240 can cost more than an M2 in the US. Here in Canada it's not even close - a loaded M240 xDrive is still thousands cheaper than an M2.

No link?

As for the M240i vs M2 cost, there is an M2 at my local dealership that has an MSRP in the mid to upper 60's, its loaded I am told. Its probably more accurate to say a nicely loaded M240i is higher then a base M2?

And it wasn't an automatic? M2 automatic pulls way ahead of the M240i in price - it was a big factor as to why I went with the M240i instead.

Doh - link is http://www.autotrader.ca/expert/2018...018-bmw-m240i/

It's a RWD manual - a rare beast in Canada.

That's Justin Pritchard for the Autotrader. He also did the review of the 2014 M235xi back in 2015.
http://www.autotrader.ca/expert/2015...015-bmw-m235i/.

Interestingly, he only gave the 2014 M235i a 6/10 for styling, whereas he gave the 2018 M240i got a 7/10 - so the design of the 2er must be growing on him. The final year production of this 2er in 2020 will probably get a 9/10 from him..

Out of curiosity I just looked at BMW.ca and priced the 2 models. Both 2018's, 6 spd, the 240i starts at $47,00 and the M2 $64,400. Added smart phone, MPE, Adp. lights,HK sound to the 240 and it comes to $60,409 so there is a big difference in the price. The M2 does come with lots standard but you're paying a big premium for the "M" With smartphone it comes to $68,014. I'm sure they are quite different to drive the M2 being much more visceral. For 4K it does make you think, should you take the plunge and go with the M?

I think they are really 2 different cars, not just a jumble of accessories on an identical base. Better way to look at it is that if you really feel that the M2 is what you want, $4k isn't that much of a premium over 'second best'. And if an extra $4k puts it out of range, you probably need to lower your sights a bit more or you'll be in over your head (and an extra $4k for smartphone? insert one of the hundred threads about extortion-based option packages).

My 240 xDrive has every option but the automatic parking. IIRC the negotiated price all in with our egregious 13% sales tax was around $68k or $69k CAD. You'd need to custom order your stripper M2, expect zero discounts. The model on the dealer's floor was well over $70k before that 13% little tax kiss - so call it over $85k vs $68k- not chump change in my household.

At the end of the day I still needed and wanted a daily driver, with AWD for our Ottawa winters, steering feel be damned. I've done RWD in this town and would not go back, as much as I think my E90 335 was the best thing ever.

No regrets. love this new puppy

i test drove both and went with the m240i coming from a 2016 cayman s

the b58 sealed it for me...much less lag and more torque than than the n55...it made me smile in a way the m2 didnt

plus i wont be tracking the car

now if the m2 had a m tuned b58...i woulda gone m2...looks awesome

I agree - an M2 with S58? I'd be all over it
