Although factory rated torque is only 330 ft/lb on the M235i, Dinan concluded that the actual measured torque is 379 ft/lb. (see chart below):

Nice. Is that factory torque or tuned? I think 330 ft lb is already a lot. If only my local dealer was willing to give me a discount this year's model... I'm not willing to pay full price for something that will take a hit.
Oh well... I'm debating between a Golf R or just wait for the M240i.

The actual measured 379 ft/lb by Dinan was factory stock M235i.
Dinan's stage 1 tune will take peak torque to a max of 430 ft/lb. (peak HP goes to 364 HP).

Why no S3? Also, the new RS3 sedan should be available in the States in a year or so. That thing will be sick.

M240: clever marketing in order to draw off those who will want Xdrive and/or convertible on the M2, but who won't get it.
But, I still have heartburn with offering Xdrive without the MT6 as an option.

Yikes.... So, does that mean that the M240i will really have 379+39 = 418 ft lbs?

so if BMW is taking orders from July, does that mean i can order one in July at my local dealer as well?.

if so, how long does it normally take to actually get to drive the car after ordering?

Because AMERICA lol

The same thing happens with the Golf MK7. In Europe there are slower versions, but here we get the 1.8T and up. It is less options for sure, but this helps keep the cost down for these higher end models. The dealers spend less money in lot space, inventory, marketing, etc.

It's not all bad to have fewer options.
Yes I understand but we do have the 320i here so why not the 220i?

In Mexico we don´t have the 228, it is 220, M235 (son M240) or M2.
The 220 is just what I needed, tho

I think americans in general don't like smaller-ish cars (although the 2 series is a medium size for me already).
Take a look at cars.com on used BMWs. You'll see a ton of 3 series and like some 2 series. There is not a lot of people who appreciate that kind of car here.
I think that's unfortunate, because for my taste, the 3/4 series are too big and I wish I could get a smaller 4-door RWD bmw (no 2016 M135i here).

For ppl who don't need the power (or size), it would make total sense to get a 220i. It is what it is... maybe in a few years, when americans are less in need of boat-sized cars lol

Those of you asking why BMW make an M2 when the 240i power is so close to it? The answer is simple. The 235i power is far away enough to distinguish the M2 apart from it. And the LCI M2 will do the same for the 240i in a couple of years.

Sound :

M235i "vs" M240i. It seems that the camera is in the M240i.

totally agree about Americans preferences and I also prefer a 2 series size car. what baffles me is that Americans loved the E30, E36, E46 and so on including even earlier smaller models! Are all of those people now deceased and if so where are their decendants?

It's the "new normal" problem. Every year, auto manufacturers look for ways to draw in new customers. "Now with more interior room" is a major selling point in the mass market. How does one deliver "more interior room" year after year, after year, after year?

This process occurs slowly, but surely, and consumer preferences evolve to match. What used to be considered a large car is now the "new normal", because no car manufacturer can risk consumers hearing the argument that their competitor's offering has "3 inches more leg room", or "6 cubic feet more trunk space."

Yep, I agree that is a slippery slope. Fortunately they created the new 2 series to fill the gap they left behind. I hope they keep it this size and not increase 2 inches every other year!

true, but unfortunately we only get 2 door variants, as a previous poster alluded to.
