M235 Launch control seemed slow

Now its pretty simple to activate launch control. First time i used it was last night. Set all up easily and The flag popped up on dash so i knew it was in launch and holding the revs for me, but when i release brake the car went off in almost 60% power. Weird. but if i pull over try just planting foot its like a rocket going off line. Anyone had this. My car is running about 375-380bhp. cant see why it would affect that.

If I remember correctly...The car magazine which recorded the lowest 0-60 times (motor trend I think) stated they got that time with traction control off and not using the launch function.

With all the torque and power on hand plus the way boost is built/managed, the overall tuning strategy, and the fact that it's still just an automatic with a torque converter, it makes sense that a simple and quick flash stall launch would be the quickest way to get off the line on street tires. A flash stall launch would be the following:

1) DSC completely off. Maybe Sport+ if it doesn't intervene too much. Manual mode.
2) Foot firmly on brake.
3) Foot resting on accelerator (not pressing)
4) When it's time to go, mash the gas fully and then about 1/2 second later, release the brake.

If you get too much spin, then adjust how much throttle you're using right off the bat. When the tires tramp (i.e. not spin much at all), you know you got it right. If they spin, you'll be a lot slower from 0-30mph. If it bogs, you need to use more throttle or a bit more brake stall.

Funny how this, "just an automatic" beats the manual quite handily. Ha!

It was probably trying to block you from blowing up the engine....The car won't let you downshift if the lower gear will be over redline...

You can always put DSC OFF, step on the brake, throttle to whatever rpm you want and then release the brake to launch... You will achieve the same thing like in a manual and you won't miss any gear in the process...

By that i meant that it doesn't behave like a DCT in that it engages neutral, bring the revs up, and slips the clutch for a strong launch. As an automatic, it's simply a planatary gear set and a torque converter. Yes, it's faster and quicker than a 6mt. You'll get no argument from me on that.

It's really no secret - the automatic is significantly lower geared than the manual in the first few gears, and it shifts faster than a human can - certainly MUCH faster than any human who is actually paying for the car themselves. Similarly, it can get better fuel economy under test conditions because the last couple gears are taller than the manuals.

Still sucks like the vacuum of space, IMHO.
