Xdrive with big turbo
Hi guys,
How much HP/torque is the Xdrive driveline known to hold? Has anyone tested/ reached the limits? Who holds the HP record for an Xdrive car? Interested to hear what HP / torque level this driveline has succesfully been subjected to... without breaking. Thanks Kris |

I would say no problem with maxing out PS2 which is 530-550whp. And you will have to worry about gear box before 4wd system. But:
One of my friend had his MY2013 335i PWG xdrive break N55 1/4 mile world record in early 2017 with 11.1s@126mph. I believe he has the weakest ZF8at version for a n55. Rest assure, you're good to go.

Thanks Sean.
I am aiming higher than pure stage 2. Probably one of the bigger speedtech EFR variants, 600hp+, so interested to hear if someone with ZF8 Xdrive is runnnig such setup? Or other 600+ setup.. |

Your 8AT and Xdrive will be severely taxed running that power. Will it last? Sure, it will for a while (a few months, maybe a year or two if you're nice to it) but it doesn't have the capability to handle the power reliably like a 6MT. It's well known that if you want big power in a turbo BMW, you need to run the 6MT. Also, the 8AT and xdrive is monumentally more expensive to repair and there are no upgrades available to help handle the power. With the 6MT, it's the matter of running an upgraded clutch and flywheel. If you break the 6MT, it's readily available 4X less expensive to source.
I would strongly suggest having $10K+ readily available in the event the ZF 8AT and/or xdrive puke. I don't think the ZF 8AT is a junk tranny at all, but you should be prepared to replace it if you plan on running 450+rwtq through it routinely. HP doesn't kill trannies, torque does. HP is derived from torque. |

I dont disagree with XutvJet
Me personally would put money on the 8AT against the 6Spd. Those transmission are damn good transmissions. Thats just my opinion and things i have seen done to the manuals just from no tunes and very slightly tuned. As stated tho.. Torque kills transmissions not HP

Harold was, right around 600whp, ran a 11.2 and his tranny exploded as well as shot a rod.
These cars and tranny are super reliable under 25 psi on the daily and around 550.
