Exhaust tips - Stock, BMS, MPE

Hey guys,

I've had quite an adventure these past couple weeks switching out between 3 different exhausts so I figured I would post on the issues with trying different tips as there was very little information on this. I will make a separate post later on my thoughts between the exhausts, but I had various tip combinations which I'll outline below. The MPE exhaust I have and reference to is the one made FOR the M-performance diffuser. Note that I do not have the MP diffuser, so this will make the post a bit more interesting. Here are my findings (I have an exotics tuning diffuser)
  1. Stock exhaust + BMS tips + Exotics Tuning Diffuser: Fits perfectly, the tips stick out just past the diffuser.
  2. Stock exhaust + MP diffuser + BMS tips: Will not work. The BMS tips are a tad longer than the stock tips, but not enough for the MP diffuser. It will look too sunken still.
  3. MP Exhaust + MP diffuser + BMS tips: Will not work. The BMS tips do NOT work on the MP exhaust due to the differences in diameter. I was able to hammer them on, but I found that they were not secure. I could turn them or pull them off without much effort. NOT recommended.
  4. MP Exhaust + Exotics Tuning diffuser + MP tips: The tips were way too long, even adjusted as far in as possible. If you have an MP exhaust made for the MP diffuser but use a 3rd party diffuser like me, the tips will be too long. Your remedy would be to trim the exhaust tip (like me) or buy the MP exhaust made for the OEM diffuser and adjust the tips out.
  5. MP Exhaust + MP Diffuser + Stock tips: I personally was not able to try this, but I've seen it done before. I imagine it would be similar to option #3, as the oem tips have clips inside, but I will let others comment on this specific set up as I imagine it would still have issues being secure.

Hope this helps you guys out. Feel free to post pics of your setup if you have a unique combination so that others have something to reference to.

I've got the OEM tips on the MPE with MP diffiser. No issues. Sure, someone could yank them off, but you could do that with the stockers. I had slip on tips on my WRX for 4 years and they were never stolen. I'm not too worried.

I was going to make another post, but I guess it's not necessary. The Fabspeed exhaust is significantly louder than both the stock and MPE. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say the stock exhaust is a 2, the MPE is maybe a 4, and the Fabspeed exhaust is a 9. It was pretty crazy going from the Fabspeed back to the MPE, it sounded like I didn't even have an exhaust anymore, LOL. However, it was what I wanted as I am trying to stay low key. If you prefer to go balls out with an aggressive setup, then the Fabspeed will be perfect. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I thought I would've liked an aggressive exhaust like the Fabspeed, but it was too much for me.

I got a fabspeed style muffler delete done at my local exhaust shop for a fraction of the price. After it warms up, it's a great sound. But it is just a touch too loud on the way to work right after I wake up lol, I wouldn't mind it being a little quieter, but for now I'm enjoying it. It sounds menacing at WOT. The shift farts sound great as well lol. Once I get a downpipe put in I'm sure I'll want to get a muffler, because without the factory downpipe, cat, and resonator... It's gonna be brutal.

I did find some on bimmian that might work, but I haven't confirmed yet. I ended up going with the stock cf ones for slightly more, but the bimmian ones are much larger in diameter so it might look pretty good. Anyone want to try?

Here's a comparison of Mpe silver tips vs mpe cf tips. My silver tips are for sale if anyone is interested! Notice how the CF tips are wider, which was not something I was aware of as I thought they were both identical, 1 just being CF. The extra width makes it look beefier, which is nice. Is it worth the cost though...?

i just swapped my fabspeed delete for a tuningwerks muffler and wanted to change the tips. I wd40'd the tips, waited a few hours, went to work with a hammer and board and nothing. Those things are not coming off.

Now i need to take the muffler off again, clean, sand, prep and paint the tips with some matte black engine paint.

Apparently mixing ATF transmission fluid with acetone 50/50 makes a "penetrating oil" between than anything you buy.

Maybe try that out to loosen them up. I've never used it but recently stumbled upon a bunch of videos of people swearing by it.

Lol I've been fighting this battle for a long time. I cannot find anything I like that fits. I plan on getting a 304 stainless 2 5/8" i.d. 3" o.d. pipe. Tap the pipe with a set screw. Install the pipe over mpe exhaust pipe with a couple set screws. Then buy bms billet aluminum 3.95" tip. And put that on the 3" o.d. pipe.

I don't think that you'll be able to notice and It will be completely reversable. If you know someone who welds you could prob go that rought too.

I gave up and just went with the CF exhaust tips, not worth all the hassle. If you really want it, you would probably have to weld it. I'm sure the exhaust shops you visited would have given you that option?

Anyone had any luck with finding replacement tips that fit the stock exhaust and are long enough for an m-perf diffuser? I dont want to modify the stock exhaust or use extenders, just want to add longer tips but having trouble finding some.
